iTunes 7 now available for download.....

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

    new to v7:
    * View your media library by video, music and (new!) games (that can be played on the new 5G iPods)
    * Browse your music library by cover (much like the just-upgraded CoverFlow)
    * Automatic album cover downloads from the iTunes Store
    * Video encoding upped from 320x240 to 640x480, 4 times the resolution for iPod video screens that are 60% brighter
    * One More Thing: over 75 movies available for download from 4 Disney studios at nearly-DVD quality, downloads that take about 30 minutes over broadband (but that you can watch within the first minute of downloading.)

    enjoy!

    PS
you can now sync your iPod with different computers as long as both are activated with the same iTunes Music Store account.

This would be great if I didn't have to set up an account and give them my cc details.

The new features are really cool. Some are long overdue (gapless playback), while others are slightly gimickey. Still itunes sure has come a long way from a simple mp3 ripping, burning, playing solution to a full blown media center. How much longer will Apple get away with calling it iTunes?

    DID YOU SEE THE SHUFFLE?
god they really shrunk that! a battery, flash, circut board and buttons?

one thing i noticed with the new nanos is where the hell do you plug in your head phones?

they have started to make their websites and images a bit more animated
(the static image of the falling ipods)

how are they getting all that extra storage into a smaller device (new ipod)? i read somewhere that they are managing to put the laser lense closer to the disc platter so it can burn tighter info on the same space.

the only problem i can see is that theres only so small you can go. eventually their going to hit a brick wall, then i think gaming might slowly creep under the apple umbrella. pippinpod here we go!

Downloaded and installed it. Apart from the hideous scroll bar, I love it. It finally adds a lot of things I've been dreaming about for ages, plus it improves the way Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts and Audiobooks are segregated, making navigation a breeze.

Now if they only brought back the old aqua scrollbars, I'd be completely happy.

It's still there, they just moved it. It's really big, and has "refresh" written on it. I'm surprised you missed it.

Actually, it took me a second to see it myself. But still, I'm surprised you missed it long enough to post about it here.

Best thing about the new itunes is the way u can upgrade ipod firmware from within it. I just did last night, it appears that the “search” feature isn’t part of the upgrade tho the appearance of the letter when u scroll fast is. A bit mean of Apple not 2 include the search function – unless its there and I’m missin it but don’t think so

Oh yeah... To have Spotlight (well, sort of at least) on my iPod would be nice, real nice!! But maybe the new iPods have a different firmware that includes the search, which maybe makes it impossible for older models to have it. That would be a shame though... I guess we have to wait and see. Other than that, the new iPods are cool. Especially the Shuffle... "Put some music on" they say on the website, and you see the thing being clipped to a jeans. The new nanos are also quite nice... They look like a reload of the Minis. Only thinner.

And for the rest? Well iTunes 7.0 is, indeed, quite impressive. First potions of Core Animation can be seen with "CoverFlow". It's pretty much as if you're browsing through LPs in an old fashioned jukebox, and you press the right arrow or left arrow to browse through what the jukebox has got in store. People tend to memorize songs best by their album art... so if you have a lot of music, and you don't remember some of it anymore, you will by seeing the cover. Trust me. Cover Flow is something we all dreamed about, and now it's here.

The new iPod Summary is really cool. Now I can see exactly how much music is on that thing, along with photos, videos and other stuff. The new upgrade feature within iTunes is pretty fancy. I like it! What I also like about it is that I can now manually control what videos are on the iPod, and delete them at will. It was possible before, but not as easy.

The interface itself is more modern, streamlined, yet simple to use. Everything has a more clear structure now, everything is just cool.

Cover Flow extends to videos and movies, and to the iTunes store itself. It uses it for some sections. Even cooler: Everything in iTunes can now have accompanying album art. Meaning, that videos and entire movies can have covers. If you go to your movie collection, and activate Cover Flow, it's pretty much as if you're browsing through your DVD collection in a shelf, that isn't there. Only on your Mac (or PC). I kinda like that.

So... what do I think of the new iTunes?

    Cool.

AH AH AH AH - not a happy camper.

I installed iTunes 7 on my PC at work, super no problems. So ran home at lunch and installed on my MBP. What a mistake that was.

I havent been able to listen to one single track in full - it keep crashing. Just closes with an 'unexpected error'.

Running 10.4.7 btw. Any suggestions? Anyone else having any issues?

I went onto the Apple website last night cos i had a problem with the new iTunes. Looks as though there are quite a few problems already judging by the ammount of threads...

The problem I noticed is that you cannot select songs and drag album artwork to them anymore, you can do it for single songs but not multiple.
It still works if you go to 'Get info' and drag them into there but that's a bit more awkward

Appart from that I like it, looks good. I like the artwork beside the songs in the library!

Looked at the forums and nothing about the problem I am having. I reinstalled and everything, no joy. I might work without a problem for 20 mins and then randomly in the middle of a song it quits... :(

Is it working for everyone else then?

    440Hz:

Are you still having the same problem? Do you have any plugins for iTunes installed? If so that's more than likely the cause of the crashing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah Sad Professor, its still crashing on me. I have cleared prefs, deleted, plugins, scripts, reinstalled numerous occassions, repaired permissions everything... still crashes :(

are you certain all the plugins are gone? do you have anything else 3rd party installed related to itunes? like a dock widget or something? anything that might interfere with it?
