Has anyone seen this ad on the TV for the fungal toe infection product??? You know the one where the little anti-fungal man kicks the toe and the nail on the big toe lifts off and he jumps in to carry on his dis-infection work??? Am I the only person who wants to ring up RTE and ask them to discontinue this ad??? It came on last week when I was having my dinner and I had to stop eating when this big brown toe with the nail reefed off it comes up on the screen, complete witha big red scab where the nail should be, its fu*king disgusting I think....

You obviously feel quite passionate about the subject..

.. but in all seriousness - if someone rang up RTE every time they saw something disgusting on screen that put us off our dinners, their entire presenting cast would be sacked! *

.. obviously excluding Sharon and Caroline Morahan

isnt that the one where its actually the little fungus man jumping into the toe and spreading the infection to other toes?? if it is i totally agree with ya-nasty stuff!! Subtle as a brick!!

Can you remember the name of the product that was advertised. Sometimes they use an outragous add to get your attention. I've seen the add many times and couldnt tell you what the products name is.

Yip I feel the same way about the ad. I cannot watch it, have to leave the room. The concept of a large toenail being lifted up is just repulsive to me. The hair stands on my head just thinking about it. A filthy, rotten ad.

Caroline Morahan? You may need to get them cataracts checked out.

Yeah thats the one! I don't know whether your man who dives into the toe after he reefs the nail off is part of the problem or part of the solution but this ad makes me want to puke, I can't look at it! Its the bit where the toenail appears to be on a hinge and comes off, thats the bit that I can't look at!

I think everyone on boards, expecially my pal who replied 2nd in this thread...watches WAY too much television.

I have a thing about nails in general, but I think the ad is hilarious. No idea what the product is called.

No, cos the second I see that toe appearing on the TV, the zapper is grabbed and the channel is changed!!! The thing about the ad which amazes me, is that even if I had a fungal nail infection, I still wouldn't buy this product cos I'd be afraid that my nail would come off like it does in the ad!!! How does an ad like this get past a marketing department and onto a national TV screen without someone copping this!?!?!

I've seen the pregnancy test one.

"It's the best thing you'll ever pee on!".

I wasn't sure if it was a fake ad or not, still funny.

Caroline Morahan has bad toe-nails? ... still would tho.

It's not as bad as that Fundiddlyonion Rings promo on Sky1 before every Simpsons episode, and at every ad break.

The bit where the onion pulls apart turns my stomach. I pyhsically wretch if I accidentally look at it. I always always have to avert my eyes..

I quite like the toejam advert. I find it quite comical the way the toe hinges upwards when the little guy belts it.. Having said that though, I also have no idea what it's advertising.. Some kind of cream perhaps? Oh no, wait, isn't it saying that you need to see your GP, and not bother with over the counter creams?

Oh come on people. How can such an ad put you off your food? Some people are really soft.

I'll tell you a strange thing. Before that ad started, about two years ago, there was never anything about fungal toenail infections, so why suddenly did they start advertising them? I certainly had never heard much about them, but then, and this is the strange thing, I got one! Very coincidential. There are conspiracy theorists that would argue that there are people who secretly release these things and then conveniently come up with solutions for them.

hmm..i wouldn't says its rank. It wouldn't put me off my food or anything.
I don't particulary like when he lifts up the toenail,urgh!..I'm not a fan of feet!

    It's not actually a product, it's a website- www.nailcare.ie

Edit: Do NOT go onto this website. No really, DON'T.

Oh right... this is the one with the guy pretending to be Billy Crystal doing the voice of the fugus monster.

He has a little mail box and everything set up in there that's pretty cool.

Im sure someone, somewhere gets off on that ad.

I hate it, makes me ill.

I think it's hilarious! Granted, lifting the toe nail makes me wince, but I think it's generally a very funny ad, and obviously very well done if there's discussions on internet forums about it.

Also, they use something as gross as lifting up a toenail to draw your attention to all the rotten things than can happen if you don't look after your feet.

I have to say I'm not fond of thos ads for constipation..with the women's handbags etc. On that subject actually...It seems to be mainly women who suffer from this! Women really are so perfect that they don't fart or ****...*

*What the **** am I talking about?

I don't see what's so bad about that ad. For starters it's been on TV for at least a year (and there was a similar one before this one for about a year or so too) so I'm quite used to seeing the (pretty lame) ad, and I guess an anthropomorphised fungus jumping into the underside of a CG toenail is too unrealistic and abstract for me to relate to a real toenail infection.

Seriously, do some of you think you can just open up a toenail like that? I've had ingrown toenails so've had to "deal" with them a lot, and believe me it's near impossible to actually pull off a toenail - and if you did manage to do it there'll be a helluva lot of blood.

Of course I've seen it. It is no worse than any other ad or cartoon on TV. It is like horror movies; how can anyone ever be scared by one? It is not as if you don't know something is going to happen, so when it does it is hardly a surprise. You can always know by the music or the the lead up to an "unexpected" event. At that you know it is not real anyway. Blood, even the real stuff, is just a red liquid. What's so scary about that? Horror movies are the best comedies of all, especially when you have someone's reactions to it to see too. So the next time you see one, or the next time that ad comes on, have a good laugh.

Ah sure enough it's not the most plesant ad, but it does help raise awareness for somrthing that people might not have any knowledge on whatsoever. Like people have eben saying it's been running for a fairly long time now and is forever being shown in Cineworld. As soon as you see Digger, you know what's coming up, so just turn away.

The ad is for the infection. There is no product. It just wants you to go see your doctor if you have it (which i did...:(). I wonder why/who put the ad together. Were less people visiting there doctors about less than life-threatening problems?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭b3t4

As soon as I see it on screen I have to change the channel.

Makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

That's true, but the website is run by Novartis, a pharmaceutical company that makes anti-fungal treatments, so the more people who find out abou these infections/get prescriptions from their doctors, the more drugs they sell. Cute way of getting around the limitations on advertising prescription drugs.

That is not necessarily true. An ingrown toenail is very different. It is still strong, and solidly on the toe. It is just growing the wrong direction and into your skin. One of the effects of an infection would be to weaken the support under the toenail so it would become looser. The infection can also attack the nail itself. So the toenail can indeed become detatched easily and could come off without much if any blood loss. I had one a while back and those kinds of things were happening, though I did not lose it. It was loose as the nailbed had been affected at its worse. I was able to lift it and clean out underneath it. The nailbed did go stronger again though.
