People, especially freshers, come up that first weekend. It's a great chance to get to know people before freshers' week - there's all sorts of fun things on, and I think a night out, possibly? Depends what the JCR decide to do - but try be there for that first weekend - I'm still good friends with some of the people I met then.

i dont no if all the info has been sent out to you already or not, but u should be getting post form accomodation office at this stage. the way it works is that freshers all move in on friday 29th, and then its your room from then on. freshers week starts the following monday, but that weekend we like to call orientation weekend, its were Halls JCR put on, well i suppose u could look at it lilke a freshers week, except its just lasts the weekend and it takes place within all just for Halls residence. Weve quite a full filled packing weekend planned for freshers this year so it would be a great pity if u didnt move in that friday, as it is a fantastic chance to get to meet people and ,make friends with others living in halls.
if uve any other questions just ask

    Jcr?

JCR stands for Junior Common Room , dont get us mixed up with the JCR in college tho. We run separately out in Halls, i suppose you could look at us as a sort of student union without all the politics plus we only deal with stuff in Trinity Halls nothing to do with college.

Just for the sake of simplicity, I really wish that the JCR (Halls) had a different name. I'd say the other way around, except that JCR (Goldsmith) has been on campus in different guises for years (Regent House).

o how many welfare offices do we have in trinity then?

right with you an that one myth, dont actually know why they decided to call it JCR out in halls, it just makes things confusing!

well offically one, thats the SU welfare officer, im just welfare officer for residents of Trinity Halls

I thought that the JCR was based on the Oxbridge sytem of JCR/SCR - which was the system in their residences.

If this is the case (and I could be totally off the mark), then JCR (Halls) has a stronger claim to the title then the other JCR

On this point, what does the the Goldsmith crowd actually do? I have only been down their for exams and Hustings.. it seems to be just a common room for long haired roadie type people..

There's the SCR on campus already, so I suppose it was a logical move to call the JCR, eh, the JCR. Plus it is supposed to be an area of recreation (and is), which coincides with wikipedia (though yes, always take wikipedia with a pink of salt).

Must update the wikipedia page actually.

    Whats the SCR on campus?

I have only ever heard of the Halls SCR

Above the Dining Hall. Staff (possibly only Fellows) have to pay a couple of hundred euros to gain access to it each year. I had access to it at the end of year private party. Stargal & Andrew83 were there as well, with xeducat there last year. It's sweet :)

I took a picture of the latin above the bathtub, must have a look for it.

Im an incoming fresher and all I have recived from Trinity Halls is just the rule book and the acceptance letter......What events are there planned for the weekend, would you recommend moving in on Friday? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭littlehedgehog

You won't know what events are planned until you get here.. if you really REALLY need to know, I'll ask someone on the JCR for you..
It's usually.. like.. a night out.. pizza in the canteen.. party in Oldham house.. hmm.. strangely enough, I can't actually remember that weekend last year, but I would most DEFINITELY advise you to be up for it. It gives you SUCH a head start on making friends, and you'll have people to hang around with for the first few days of Freshers' week before you get to go to the soc meetings and lectures and things..

Some basic information here. First weekend in halls is meant to be a big durty one, with orgies happening everywhere.

    Or so I was told.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭littlehedgehog

Dude.. no one is supposed to KNOW about that.. damnit, you'll get the Orgysoc shut down..
And YES! Free pizza AGAIN this year - last year they bought like.. double the amount needed.. I feasted for DAYS on that pizza!

Phew! That's OK, then. By the way, good luck with the Orientation Weekend: it's really a great feat every year, so you'd better not let the JCR's good reputation down (only joking!). I'm so sad not to be in Halls this year. Ah, well.
