    The above message pops up and forces me to close Internet explorer every so often. Does anybody know what the problem here is? I'm running windows98 Internet explorer5

    windows 98 & internet exploder 5 you say ... mebbe it's time for an upgrade ?

    if it was me, i would get a recent copy of Mozilla, and try that on for size.
    it will import all your IE favourites and config, and should be more stable

    Aye probably just reinstall the browser or upgrade to IE 6. Does it happen just randomly or at a certain webpage?

    98 eh? Try the system file checker. It may throw up something. but tbh, invest in a new PC ;)

    May not be relevant but have you an up-to-date Anti Virus software, and have you done a full system scan?

    A Spyware scan won't do any harm either

    When you click "Details" on the illegal operation box, what file is listed there? For example;
    IEXPLORE has caused a general protection fault in module (filename here) at (address)

    I don't think there is a details options, it just says ok or cancel, but I'll check again later

    And will firefox run ok on win98

    Yes it will and you can get a plugin to switch the Firefox interface over to Internet Explorer if you don't like it.

    Have you tried upgrading to Windows 98 SE - had some major problems with a clients PC that was on 98 - updated to SE and hasn't had a problem since, but would also take on the advice of the others, use Firefox; the lassie of internet explorers. ;)

    Just going by that error message, try uninstalling Flash player from add/remove programs and rebooting. Then reinstall again and see if that does anything. All the information you need to do that should be located here.
