In May 2006 new guidelines were published to cater for the
Amended Building Reg Part L requirements.

These Guidelines can be found in Technical Guidance Document [TGD] Part L.

There are Transitional arrangments for PP applied for before 30th June 2006, as long as substantial work is done by 30/6/08.

If u are a self builder or a client with a house in the works I would be asking your professional advisor to meet the full spec now and not to avail of the 2 year exemption.

Comply with them now and make your house more energy efficient

What is the minimum U-value for windows (weigted avg frame + glazing)
in the new regs? I seem to recall our window supplier saying they are
ahead of current specs and I think he mentioned 2.2 W/m2K as either
the current max U value or what they were attaining. I'm guessing he
was quoting off the pre May 06 regs. How have they tightened up on
this. are there pdfs I can download ?

Im pretty sure they are available online, all of the previous ones are.
I'll have a look and get back to you.

One of the main changes to the regs is the removal of the voluntary HER calculations and the intro duction of the complusary DEAP calcs.

EDIT : There are online, with all the TGDs. At "www.environ.ie".
The 2006 values for windows are 2.2 W/m2K. So they haven't changed from the 2002 values. The changes to the regs were more in relation to the energy rating of a house.
Oh, and something a window manufacturer will NEVER tell you is that the min U-value for a windows is directly related to the area of windows and doors as a % of floor area.
2.2W/m2K applies to 25% glazing, the actual min value could be alot higher or lower for certain houses.
