Hi guys, having a problem ghosting a system save back onto a blank HD, im using norton ghost 2000, i have about 15 dvds of backed up data, which includes the OS itself, after the second cd has finished ghosting, it asks for the next cd, when i put it in, it cant find any data on it.

i have checked this cd on another comp and there is a 2gb image file on it, so i cant understand why its not detecting it

any ideas? i dont really need to get the whole system save back, its only a few important folders that i need, so is it possible to only take what i need instead of installing everything?

    cheers

Does Ghost 2000 come with Ghost explorer (should be in your start/programs list or try installing it from the CD. You can then browse the image through this explorer to extract your files/folders.

I have always found backing up on multiple CD's with ghost extremely unreliable. Better to create a partition and save your image there. Back it up onto DVD's as well if you want.

BTW your image spans 15 DVD's !!!! Thats 62GB. Better to save all your files and folders onto a DVD and just create a ghost image of your machine with a fresh install.

Ghosting to or from spanned DVD's will always be tricky,
a better option would be to install your old HDD as a slave drive and use the ghost disk-to-disk option to move your data
or you could use a USB HDD, Google for a ghost boot disk that has USB drivers,

I use a 250GB iomega USB drive to store my backup images and I can do a re-image in 10 minutes with hirens 8 boot CD

That DVD you say Ghost doesn't recognise may be slightly dodgy - these disks don't last very long. If you've access to another computer, you could try copying over the image file in Windows and seeing if it works without any seek errors. If it's fine, try re-burning it again.

Advice given above is better in the long term though. I suggest you rethink your backup procedure.
