2.1 or 5.1 speakers ? If you're looking to play some music check out a quality set of 2.1's. If its soley for gaming & Movies get a set of 5.1's. Possible for 200Euro the Logitech 5400's. Althogh for 300 euro, top of the range PC speakers the logitech 5500's are said to be breath taking.

    Music : 135Euro http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=303910

    Gaming : 229 euro http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312253

or http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=315194 << Id go with them

Mind blowing gaming & Movie speakers http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=303911

Sound is something I know very little about, I take it to get the best from these I would have to upgrade the sound card?

With 200 if it is for music I would (and did) personally go for a hifi amplifier and bookshelf speakers. Sony Dolby Digital receiver (only need this so it would have a digital input -cost around €125 secondhand) and a pair of Wharfdale Diamond Pro bookshelf speakers (got years ago but were around €50 new the pair from Richer Sounds, unbelieveably good speakers for the price.) Digital connection from the computer to the amp so sound card is not an issue. For music you are likely to be better off with two decent speakers and no subwoofer rather than two tiny ones with a subwoofer.
