Advice on building a shed

    Hi,
I have started digging foundations for a shed. It will be 19 ft by 11ft.

My question is whether to use 6 inch solid blocks or 9 inch cavity blocks? I would prefer to use 6 inch solids, but would they be safe enough?

I don't plan on having a cavity and the height will be 10 rows to the bottom of the pitch roof. The pitch roof will be about 6 blocks high, so to the heightest part of the roof it will be 16 blocks high.

Any advice on whether the 6" would be safe enough to use?

    Thanks,
    Sean.

Will the walls be a solid run or will you be building "pillars" to strengthen it?
Why do you not want to use 9" cavities and will you be using 2 leaves or just one?
I think for a 19' span you would definitely need to strengthen it will some pillars (lay the blocks horizontally or build a square)

For a shed that size I guess you will be spending some time in it, why not use 2 leaves and then you can insulate it and make it more user friendly during winter?

As a matter of interest, what dims are the founds?

I think u will need piers so the found need to cater for those

6" soilds will be v heavy, also u need to consider opes for windoes doors etc

What kind of roof are u putting on as u must consider the weight of the roof.
What about a hip at each end, maybe a partial hip to make it more pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for the tips. I plan to put in pillars. The reason why I don't plan on going with 2 leaves is more for speed of construction than anything else.

I will probably go with 9" cavity blocks. I will putting on a tiled roof to match the house so I suppose the 9" would probably take the weight better as well.
