Anyone know when either the Sony Ericsson W850i or W710i will be available on O2 Pay Monthly?

Not until the far side of Christmas I would think. They haven't even gotten a UK release yet. If I were a betting man, I'd say April/May next year. Of course, you will be able to get them sim free well before that.

    ah feck...

Don't fancy buying a phone sim-free on the web and having to have to pay a couple of hundred euro for it.

I'm sick to death of my nokia 6230i, piece of sh*t, always crashing with the 'insert sim' message and regularly received garbled texts. Any recommendations for a new phone (available on O2 pay monthly)???

like the idea of using it as an MP3 player, that's why I had my eye on those 2 Sony Ericssons....

IMHO, at the moment it makes a lot more sense to have a separate MP3 player, like an iPod nano (I hear the iPod's will be updated soon). The phones, at least in my experience, tend to have clunkier user interfaces, and using one device as a phone and an MP3 player also means you wear out the battery quicker. If your iPod battery is empty, it doesn't matter much. But if that means you can now no longer make calls until you charge it again, that would really stink.

I'd get the Motorola SLVR L6i, which is a good quality phone, and an iPod nano. Best of both worlds.

By the way, in my experience the Nokia 6230i is a rock solid phone. If it isn't working for you, there's something wrong with it. Is it still under warranty? If it is, get onto a repair centre to get it fixed. It should not be exhibiting any of the behaviour you describe.

Ah.. I'd only use the MP3 player once a week or so, I have a 1Gb cheapy one which does me for that. Suppose I don't REALLY need it as part of the phone, would be a 'nice to have'. Heard a lot of bad things about Motorolla phones, that's why was planning on going for Sony Ericsson next time

I got it last December I think, as an O2 upgrade, so probably still under warrantly

    I would recommend the following

    - Sony Ericsson K800i - should be on O2 now

    - Sony Ericsson W810i - Not sure if O2 are getting this. On Meteor though.

    - Sony Ericsson W800 - Similar to the W810i, just different colour, one less button and lack of EDGE support, which is not relevant to O2.

New Motorola phones are fine. The only problem is: the OS stinks. It's not that it crashes or anything, but it takes them forever to implement features that have been on Nokia phones for years.

Sony Ericsson phones have a really sweet OS, but the build quality often seems "cheap".

    I've had a K750i, W800i, K800i, W810i, P910i and my gf had a Z520i and a K750i. No problems whatsoever.
