    Hi,

I have been imformed by my dentist that I need root canals done on two teeth. One of them is a molar which apparently has several roots??

He won't do them himself and referred me to someone else who wants €85 just for an initial consult (surely I have already done this with the other dentist) and approx €750 for the complicated one and €450 for the other one!

This is scandalous as I don't have any PRSI cover due to being a civil servant, plus I can't afford this right now.

Is there anywhere else I can go?
Also, being a total scaredy cat is there any way to be put asleep?

    All advice appreciated.

scandalous or not, 750 is fair market value for a molar root canal. to do them properly thats the bare minimum.prices range between 650 and 1000 for molar root canal. prsi cover is irrelevent as it only gives 30 euro off the prices. you can get some tax back and pay out of your pre tax income as it were. the only other option is remove it for 27 euro or so.

I just paid somewhere around the region of 600 Euro for a root canal with 4 canals to be extracted on one of my molars. It's the price we pay unfortunately, but you can claim most of it back at the end of the year in tax relief.

also you will need a crown fitted to it if you want to keep it and that will be another 700 or so. basically endo and a crown runs at around 1400-1700. if the root canal isnt done by someone who knows what hes doing you might as well not bother.hope that helps.
