Rip me to shreds on this... It's a bad call. Lyonzy Has been raising a lot and playing any two cards. I've been in a good position the whole tournament and this was my only real mistake. Lyonzy has called most of my raises it seems - I've been TA. It's effectively another buble as Nuggit is so low - it pays 1st and second. 1st is a package and second is $3800

I think Lyonzy's played this very well... Except the risk he's taking if the Ace hits [and no king] because he hasn't raised I think my king is good and that he's on the draw. Be honest now... how many call at the end in my position. Remember he's been very LA

I'm pretty tired, but yes this is terrible. Fold the turn

think I'm getting out here on the turn and definitely not calling the river, just behind to many hands and 19k is still very playable. I know you emphasise LA but i cant call here, however you went with your read on the draw and I would never criticize a player for this.

can't see how you could call here - tbh

Len, you should post this again in 6 months, except next time don't post the result -post it as a 'should I call the river?' thread.

I can see why you call, it begs for a call. Unlucky.

I don't know, does this guy really call flop, then fire two barrels on blank turn/river as a bluff? If so then call away, if he isn't a maniac fold river or turn, probably river.

    I'd check the flop personally.

I think your flop bet is too small. 2.4k into a 6.6k pot? So he's calling 2.4k to win an 11.4k pot.

I bet more on the flop and check fold after that, or else check the flop but 90% of the time I bet 5k here.

I guess this is easier if you know how he plays flush draws but at this stage I think he check raises all-in on a draw or he folds that would be my default tournie assumption online. Especially loose aggressive types.

Unlucky Len a jack on the river would have been nice

P.S. I like his turn bet size, sucked you in for the crying call on the river drawing pretty skinny on your hand range. Not something I do enough of. I'd have bet 8k I think. Of course I'd have bet out on the flop hoping you come over the top. :D

This is one of those times that you're so sick of the opponent that you can persuade yourself you're ahead, despite the evidence to the contrary. I've done it countless times. When you look back on this in the cold light of day it's an easy fold on the turn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

Lets not forget this is a satellite and not a normal tournament. This makes it about as clear a fold as there is.

I would also never consider Lyonzy to be LAG. He is more of a tricky TAG, but definitely not the type to raise and call with any two. As soon as you get called on the flop you should be done with your hand. He reads this forum but does't post very often. .

I think your right Lplate - It's a kind of tilt - and I do it far more online than off line. I was so close to folding... But as I worked through the hand I convinced myself that he had a flushdraw and missed. It plays out perfectly that way. A call preflop instead of a re-raise. Can't put him on KK, Ak or AQ. Maybe AA. But then with two hearts on the board and a straight draw... he checks. [In his position with trip kings I might check re-raise - there's lots of drawing hands I want to avoid.] He flat calls my feeler bet - At this stage we're both two highest stacks so a smallish bet like this is often enough. If he re-raises I'm gone. If he was trying to hit a flush it's the kind of call you see a lot of online. So now there's 13.2k in the pot. So the bet of 5k is fairly standard. If I raise here I can't see him going away he's made some outrageous calls earlier. Plus I'm convinced I'm ahead. So when no heart comes on the end the all in seems like a "I missed my draw but don't think you have the straight bet." I took eight seconds to call. madness. Ah well that'll teach me to play KQ in the first place lol. A rush of blood to the head.

Which is probably why Lyonzy was playing LAG rather than TAG when it came to final table. > This was chat when it broke to one table:

Sep 10 21:42:44] : Lyonzy : one seat sat, can't be hanging about
    [Sep 10 21:42:44] : mozmck folded.
    [Sep 10 21:42:45] : arma arda folded.
    [Sep 10 21:42:46] : bermo 63 folded.
    [Sep 10 21:42:52] : Nuggit folded.
    [Sep 10 21:42:54] : darby1974 : muppet

    > So clearly he had upset someone. Having never played him before and not seeing the hand that that comment reffered to, his play gave the impression of LAG. As a few hands later he calls an AI with K 10 suited and sucked out on A 10. He did the same with A8 later and raised often and called raises often. Of course without knowing his hands it's hard to tell. Think I'll turn chat off in future :D

Yeah I can see your point but in general any competent player with the chip lead at that stage will not mess about with crap hands or jepordize it all on a draw

Hello, Lyonzy here. First of all, I think I would of come very close to making that call too Len with my table image. It would of been an instant call if I had an A. I was expecting you to come over the top of me on the turn becuase I was pretty happy I'd convinced you I had a flush draw. When a blank came on the river I thought you have to call any bet (assuming you have an Ace)so why not horse the lot in.
Secondly, the A8 hand was one of those hands ("I know I'm ahead, I know I'm ahead, call, just make the call") even if only by a small percentage, and I was. The K10 call was questionable. It was only a small bit more to me, but in these 1 seat sat's I think LAG and a bit of luck is the way to go.

As I said Lyonzy I think you played it really well. And congratulations by the way. I think it shows what a good stratergy unbridled aggresion can be. You clearly knew where you were with me. I still can't get over what a dumbass I was alling it :D And I agree with you about these kind of sats... you have to take chances. Especially against shorter stacks. I wouldn't mind but I'd been folding better hands all night long lol. One day I might even learn how to play this game.:)

im with Ollie on this.bet a bit more on the flop and then shut down unless you improve.

A good rule of thumb is if you are behind the pay off hand you should fold and an a was the pay of hand here

There is one hand thats been bugging me Len. 5 handed, you limp utg for 800. I make it 2800 on the button, sb calls the 2800. bb folds, comes back to yourself and you push for 26000. I dwelled for a while and nearly called with AK. Thought you were taking advantage of my aggression with any 2. Any chance you could tell me if I made a good fold?
