Hot Days = Chilly Nights but not in Ireland ?

    How comes on the continent esp. Central Europe when the day is hot the
    nights are freezing.

    You might say this is due to cloud cover but when it is a hot day in Ireland e.g
    in August the night will be fairly balmy but in places like Central Europe (non-alpine) when the day is hot the nights are distinctly
    chilly (even in summer) ?

    Can any of ye weather boffins explain this ?

    Depending where you are on the continent ie:away from any large water mass.
    As we are on an island surrounded by water it generaly stays at a uniform temperature falling slightly and falling more in a prevailing cool northerly(depending on the time of year).As on a landlocked place,lets say Paris,Berlin or Munich for example,the heat radiates out quicker at night resulting in cooler nights as they are away from the warmish seas.
    It does happen here alright but more noticeably in the midlands.
    Remember Ireland is inhibited by the Gulf stream which is mild and moist all year round,so this will keep us generally mildish both by day and night again depending on the prevailing wind direction.
    So the Gulf stream is really to blame.
