It needs a crop on the right I think...

Shame the flash burnt the dress.

For the sake of boredom and not wanting to hoover, I threw it into photoshop for a couple of seconds, hope you don't mind.

Just desaturated, duplicate layer, added a lot of gaussian blur, think about 5 or 6 pixels (Well a lot for the size of the image posted) and set blending selection to Overlay, then cloned out that distracting piece of hair or wire (???) emerging from her head!

EDIT: And with some mild toning in.

Edit: Tinypic appears to have ruined my beautiful toning. It's there. Honestly! Come to Waterfor and I'll show you! It's 3 different shades of sepia, sweeping accross the image, bringing attention to her face! :D

good old sepia looks good :-)

    to get there (pshop cs2):

curves a little bit to add color
    unsharp mask
magic wand overlit portion of the dress
using hue/sat (or replace color) dim the selected area to match the rest of the dress
Image -> calculations (red + green), soft light, opasity 10 - 30% -> new image

copy paste into new RGB image
Actions -> Sample Actions -> Sepia Toning.

if you'd give us raw we'd have more fun... :)

that of course will never tell the fact that the girl was red haired... Though there are a bunch of other creative opportunities like bw photo with red hair... :)

i didn't shoot in raw, was a long night didn't have the space, I like both effects, I toyed with them myself a bit, but I felt the red hair, pale skin and eyes made it a picture I really liked so I tried keep it coloured. I added some gaussian blur to add a bit of DOF and diffused glow to lighten her up, plus the usual, levels stuff

Well that would be possible after I finish reading this book :)

other than that I'd suggest getting rid of the background completely - you may have something interesting from that photoshoot, and may be toying with perspective distortion a little bit to remove that "from the sky" look.

the rest will depend on how demanding your clients are :)

yes the background is very distracting, was gonna blur it more but it made it look 'fake' anyone have any tips how to get rid of the back ground?

Perhaps use a clone brush and carpet over the people. Heres my messing about on it, took out pretty much everything but the little one (must try again later). :) Nice picture.

Subtle lightening using some curves in a screen overlay layer, bit of lens blur in a gradient, and also a wee bit of dodging and burning on the face to bring out the eyes.

I quite like it as it is, if you just remove that mustard colour from behind her also try changing background to a different colour and see what you think. try cropping it a bit also.

Me likes the pic as it is - or at least with absolute minimum editing. The thing that makes this pic is the genuine innocent of the girl. I think it's a lovely pic. It is a pity about the background - but not a 'great' pity - it doesn't ruin it or anything. I think it should defo be left in colour. I agree that the colour of her hair adds to the photo. Her dress is already white - her skin pale....so the main affect you have of B&W'ing the pic is of dulling her hair, imo.

    Well done.

For some reason i don't like the banister and (railing?) behind her, it takes away from the image, not sure why though, maybe cause it's dark.
