Do you need the install file to uninstall a program?

    OK i have the Steam install file on my pc at the moment. Im trying to clear some space so im wondering do you need the install file to uninstall a program such as steam??

    No, you should be able to remove it via Start->Settings->control Panel->Add/remove programs.

    Depends on the software. Some apps use the install prog as a uninstall/repair prog too. If you delete it, then Add/Remove Programs won't be able to uninstall.

    What you could try is to rename the install file to something different. Then try to uninstall Steam. If it starts uninstall process then you don't need the install file. If it says "can't find x" then you know you need to keep it.

    I usually fire up spacemonger to see if there is any other junk to remove first
