i just had a great idea for an invention.

i've never seen it before and am fairly confident that it doesn't exist.

providing that it doesn't, how do you go about patenting somthing?

Getting a patent ain't simple at all - first you need to prove you're idea is original enuf for a patent and then you need to apply for a patent via a patent expert - the cost could be approx €20,000 by the time you've finished and even move onto €50,000.00 as you may need to translate you're patent into each european language to protect it - best of luck with it!!:o
