I use the Logitech Quickcam Zoom. Great lil cam, good pic quality and easy to use. But I've had it for a few years so it's probably been replaced by a newer model. But logitech is the most popular brand for webcams and you'll prob find something to match your budget. Argos stock a few of the logitech models.

Just bought a PC Line one in PCWorld for €19.99, built in microphone. Seems to be working pretty well!

    Thanks to you both.

Should I have a minimum pixel quality for a web cam. Is 1million mega pixel enough or should I look out for a higher level one?

    Maxwell,

As someone with a foreign missus who uses the thing practically every day, I'd recommend shelling out a bit more for the logitech. I initially bought that PC World one, but had to take it back because the sound was dropping out all the time.

This may have been an issue with my laptop, but I had no such problems with the logitech one, and the difference in picture quality was enormous.

I spent a fair bit on a Logitech fusion webcam and I get dropped sound on Skype and echo on MSN. I know people with cheapy webcams who have no such problems.

I wouldn't recommend getting anything more than a basic, 640x480 res camera (with or without a mic).

no point in getting anything over 1.3mega pix as at the end of the day, it'll only be used for 640 x 480 res anyway in skype, msn etc..

i picked one up on ebay for €15. built in microphone, 6 led's that come on when it's dark (has a built in sensor too).

pay over €20 for a basic camera and you're getting robbed.
