How to sell broadband to the masses

Neuf Telecom is running a TV advert for broadband in France at present featuring a gorgeous blond wearing a bikini riding a white horse on a beach.

This guy in his beach house with huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beach is on the phone (he can call 30 countries free and for an unlimited duration with his Neuf broadband package, and appears to be totally absorbed with same) as she rides by on the horse. She falls off the horse right in front of his place and he doesn’t notice, even as the waves are washing in around her. The easy to rescue damsel in distress is right outside his back door, and he could bring her back to his beach house while she recuperated if he wasn’t so otherwise absorbed.

Sexy. Subtle messages. Huge brand recognition. Every dick driven male in France will think of Neuf rather than Orange when they are shopping around for broadband. And the women won’t fail to notice either, looking at it from the female perspective.

In addition to 20 Mbits/sec internet, the offer includes unlimited phone calls, HD TV with 200 channels (of which 60 are included in the basic €29,90 internet/phone/tv package).

The modem/set top box also includes a digital terrestrial TV receiver so that the popular national channels can be received without using the DSL connection (allowing faster PC downloads while people are watching the main TV channels elsewhere in the house), 9GB of online storage to back up your files, and no monthly subscription to pay to France Telecom for the line because it is based on full loop unbundling.

Smart should get a Neuf Telecom franchise for Ireland so that they could run these adverts and offer the package. They wouldn’t even have to translate the soundtrack!
