Hello i have just got myself a new sound card (Trust SC-5250, on the box, in device manager CMI 8738) I have installed it, with the softw and drivers, i have it connected to my digital amp via optical (also tried coaxial). It is putting sound through to my amp via these connections, but when i use a DVD with Dolby digital i get nothing.

I am using WinDVD 7 Platinum and turing on the "Digital (S/PDIF) out to external Processor" when i do this for a DVD i get no sound, when its a DIVX i get sound, even though the divx is 2ch.

I CAN get sound from the dvd on Windvd but only iof i tell it that im using a "Analog Sound Card"..................dont know where i am going wrong! Been on the Intervideo site and my card is supported.

Also tried Windows media player, went to tools/options/dvd/advanced, turned on "3front,2 Rear, Sub" and "enable S/PDIF output" no sound again with DVD's!

I can listen to music with WMP via coax and optical.

Am i being really stupid and does the DVD drive need to be connected directly to the sound card?

    Any ideas would be great!

    thanks!

nothing but dumb suggestions for ya to try but..
on the winDVD console there's an icon for change audio stream (speaker icon) press keyboard key H when disc is playing.

The opti cable is it in the soundcard 'spdif out' and not in the 'spdif in' socket.

Is the amp selected input set to optical and not co-ax or analog.

Also just in case this is a driver issue (as from what I've heard SPDIF can be flaky with certain C-Media chips/driver combos) the latest driver for the C-media 8738 can be gotten from this link.

If that doesn't help there is a C-media forum where you may get an answer but I would not hold my breath.

Also what about other software that supports SPDIF pass-through even trial versions like PowerDVD or using NVIDIA's Purevideo for WMP (if you have an NV graphics card) just to see if it works or not.

Don't know whether this would help or not as definitely out of my league when it comes to heavily tweaking sound setups but AC3Filter and its SPDIF pass-through could possibly help is some way for testing in WMP or any other directshow player. If you follow their guide for Media Player Classic you could try DVDs in that and see if it works.
