    connor!
    two things strike me

I have some with fill flash, loads in fact, but they somehow seem artificial, and i was was almost lying sideways in the lake to get as low as I did so there was nothing I could do about the reflection.I found it a very difficult shot to get I can tell ya,especially with the bastard hissing at me like a good thing!! :D

ha haa they don't like ya!!

i'm just wondering how a little light at the swans dark side would have turned out? in contrast with the bright background..difficult one i'm sure

    good shot tho!! :)

Its a nice shot. I think it would be nicer with the swan a little "brighter". You could try selecting the swan and playing with the levels/curves. Or just run a shadow/highlight, though that might ruin the rest of the image.

Have you any where you exposed for the swan rather than the scene? You could swap between them?

ok Con i can see what you mean
maybe you could just select the swan and increase the exposure a bit
or use all that fancy mask talk and that
    ;)

hope i'm not interupting, but I love the first one has a real mood about it like fire in background and calmness in the front with the water and swan;)
    The edited version looks artifical!

    well in my humble opinon:rolleyes:

Have you guys tried Adobe Lightroom? It is free, right now (and until January). It has some wicked color/level adjustment tools that could really help brighten the shadows and keep the midtones and highlights where they are. I agree that the swan needs to be a bit brighter either through Lightroom or some clever curves adjustment. But honestly, BEAUTIFUL shot. Love the sky.

I like the first picture the most, its a little noisy in the bottom right corner tho...
I'm sure a bit of clever levels correction with an adjustment layer with a layer mask could help brighten up the swan too.
