    Hi Dub Ster
There is plenty of fighting amongst the various spiritual circles, just as there is amongst the religious traditions.

If we take the analogie of dancing for example, the religions would be like dances that have specific steps and rythms you can learn, like the tango, fox trot, waltz, etc. They usually require practice and discipline and skill is measurable and demonstable. They also very much involve the mind, to remember steps etc.

Spirituality would be like free-form dancing. Whatever comes to mind, body and soul. You can keep your mind at ease, don't have to be in shape, do whatever you want, just enjoy. More the way of modern life, therefore very popular at the moment. Often not quite as pretty to watch, and often more fluid and beautiful than a learned dance. It all depends. Both ways are fine.

I don't know if you're familiar with the eastern idea of yin and yang. Religion is a more yang (more disciplined, difficult, stern) form of Spirituality. In other words the difference is in degree, not in essense. Not like chalk and cheese, but like ice and water.

The accusation that "religion divides people" is a divisive comment that serves no purpose beyond defaming and insulting both religions themselves and practitioners within those religions. Human ignorance is not limited to religion, and if you want to contribute to ending division and sectarianism, then the first step is to avoid dismissing views that don't agree with yours as wrong, immoral, or divisive.

Religions do both, don't they? Millions of people, united in their faiths. Quite an accomplishment actually. All we have to figure out now is how to unite the religions and then we will be quite happy.

    A Moment of Silence.........

See - it could work. ;)

I think the real reason that they're both under the same category, as far as boards.ie is concerned at least, is pretty mundane. As a practical matter, with so many different forums and categories to cater for, things have to be grouped together, often with very general connections. Compared to some other forums we've done quite well, for e.g. forums like 'Chuck Norris' being under 'Arts' and 'Bargain Alerts' being under 'Biz'. :)

Both sections are to do with belief and faith.
