Just googling a few sites for tracing your ancestors and all of these websites require you to pay a fee to view records....just wondering if there's any free geneology sites out there that anyone knows of. Thanks.

There are not many free to view Irish records online. Some people feel anything is an opportunity to make money.

Depending on what county you're looking at, some individuals have transcribed directories or graveyard inscriptions and put them online for people to use for free.

Many of the site owners will try help you if you email them.

Once you go back a bit, if you've any ancestors that emigrated, their descendants have often done a lot of donkey work in terms of looking up Church records etc. and these are often uploaded to the net.

Ireland is a very hard country to trace for as most of the records aren't online. If you are in Dublin then visit the National Library and they will point you in the right direction for off line records (these are held in the National Library, National Archives and General Registers offices)

Does anyone know when the Irish Census will be online? I read somewhere that the 1911 Census for Dublin City and County would be online from December 2006.
