Hunger strike is not the answer to the plight of Asylum seekers.

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/2006/09/08/story275877.html

Why do I get the impression we have been here before:rolleyes:

I must admit their demands are probrably justified but surely if they get what they want we will just have more copycat actions like in Belgium.

P.S please no stupid racist comments.

I think they're protesting for better conditions rather than for asylum to be granted... That's what I got from the article anyway!

As you said, probably justified. I'll wait for more info before passing justice ;)

Holy Obesity, Mary Harney looks worse than ever in that photo... Won't someone give that woman a personal trainer/dietician/plastic surgeon specialising in lypo?

I would call it husky. :) She has inner* beauty.

    *look deep, deeper, deeeeper.

Is the OT getting much coverage on RTE yet?

Their concerns include visiting and other restrictions, the lack of recreational facilities, the standard of food they are given and the attitude of management and some staff at the centre.
So they flee their country because they fear for their lives/safety... and are now hunger striking because there's no xbox360.
Interesting people, such gigantic balls. ó_O

I think we should run two sweeps on this one.

    1. Which will happen first, someone calls someone else a dickhead, or someone says "if they don't like it they can go home"

    2. Predict the post number of the first post to use the R word (and not be doing it just to win the sweep). 50c each, winner takes all.

    edit: post 15 for me.

I'm just waiting for the PC brigade to arrive.

50c on the word "bigot" being used before post number 25.

"I'm not racist but.." and "I'm not one of those PC brigrade but.." must be two of the most overused sentence beginnings these days. I also love the term "Non-national". The wink is practically implied with that one. "OOOhh Mary its not the same as in my young day sure the place is full of (drops voice) non-nationals"

Yeah seriously. That breakingnews.ie bit makes it sound like they're pissed off because there's no basketball court, they don't get steak for dinner, and Marie on the desk is a bit of a grumpy bitch.

Hey, welcome to the real world!

I'll wait and see what RTE and/or their spokeperson says about the conditions.

In fairness I heard that Marie one is a bit of a cow.

Give them a C64 to share and see what kind of a reaction you'd get. :)

I live in Tralee and the place does look a bit crumby to be honest but anytime I walk past they're playing guitars and standing around a pool table in the evenings, €19.10 pocket money is a bit nominal for em but at the same time why should they milk the €165 dole and get free accomodation as well? Give em an inch... (only messin)
