Limerick's 300 jobs in finance sector

LIMERICK received a massive boost yesterday with the announcement of 300 new jobs in the financial sector on the city's outskirts.

Northern Trust Corporation, which already employs 400 people in Dublin, has begun recruiting for their new Limerick business, which will be based at Hamilton House, Phase 2 in the National Technology Park.

It is a timely boost for the Mid-West, which hopes to attract more financial services to the area and away from the capital.

Chief operating officer with Northern Trust, Meliosa O Caoimh, said Limerick was chosen for three specific reasons.

"There are a lot of people working in Dublin in different positions who come from Limerick. They want to return to live and work where they came from," she said.

"Secondly, there are people who have studied in third- level colleges in Limerick, or who are now working in Limerick and want to enter financial services without having to move to Dublin.

"There are also people working with us in Dublin who have indicated that they would be willing to move to Limerick to help set up our base here."

Great to hear of new job creation in town
