    from the BBC...
A university student who secretly filmed women in the bathroom at his halls of residence in Bangor has admitted six voyeurism charges.
Charles Greaves, 19, from Wellington, Shropshire, hid a tiny digital camera inside an adapted shower gel bottle.

He admitted three counts of installing equipment to gain images for sexual gratification and three more of viewing images for sexual gratification.

He will be sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court on 7 September.

Magistrates heard at first Greaves tried to film women in the shower in the bathroom of the mixed Emrys Evans hall.

But the former student, who was described as an "overweight loner", failed to get good quality images and put a sign on the door asking all students to take baths instead.

The University of Wales, Bangor has offered counselling to students who may have been affected by Greaves' offences.

A Bangor University spokesman said: "Following the guilty pleas the university will now deal with the matter formally through our internal disciplinary procedures."

Are there any corresponding offences in Irish law?

City landlord who secretly filmed tenants to be sentenced next month
A Galway city landlord who hid miniature cameras in the ceilings of this tenants' bedroom, bathroom and living room, and recorded their every move on video before downloading images from the video onto his computer, pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment at Galway District Court this week and will be sentenced next month.

In what is believed to be the first such case of its kind, factory worker, B]deteled name and address[/B, spied on people he shared his house with at the above address.

He hid the cameras in the corner of rooms he rented out to his tenants, one of which, a female, made the discovery and made a complaint to gardai on March 4 last year.

Inspector [Deleted Name] said gardai carried out a search of the house, which O'Donnell shared with tenants, and found hidden cameras in a bedroom, bathroom and living room.

The cameras were connected to a video recorder, which in turn was connected to a computer belonging to the accused.

Many of the images recorded by the video recorder had been downloaded onto the computer.

Inspector O'Donnell said this was a cause of great embarrassment for the tenants involved and constituted a gross invasion of their privacy.

Inspector O'Donnell did not specify how many tenants had been recorded but he indicated that there were three witnesses in court.

There is no legislation in Ireland governing the control and use of camera and recording equipment in such a fashion and so the accused was charged with harassing this female between March 1 and 9 last year at his address, contrary to Section 10 (1) and (6) of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act, 1997.

Gardai seized his computer and, in addition to the images of tenants, it was found to contain twelve other files, containing around 100 images of child pornography which had been downloaded from the Internet. O'Donnell was further charged with having in his possession computer images of male and female children engaging in explicit sexual activity, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

Defending solicitor, Olivia Traynor, said her client was pleading guilty to both charges.

She asked for the matter to be adjourned for two weeks so that her client's barrister could be present to address the court.

Judge Gerard Haughton accepted jurisdiction because O'Donnell had pleaded guilty and he adjourned the matter for sentencing to April 7 next.

There was a case in France a few years ago where a university professor used an astronomical telescope to spy on the women's showers 3km away. Apparently he didn't break the law until he took pictures.
