I'm having a bit of a problem receiving emails through outlook express the problem being that I can't receive any.
The email account I'm using is an eircom address.
I've set up the account on other computers before and it's been fine.

The computer I'm trying to set it up on gets internet access through a router and it's an NTL broadband so I don't know if that's the problem.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers.

Your outgoing sever should be setup as NTL's outgoing(smtp) server, whatever that is, you can probably find it on their website.

I tried that but it doesn't seem to work.

    I used "smtp.ntlworld.ie"

I dunno if that's the right one though.

if u cant receive then check the incoming setting. which should be mail2.eircom.net

Is the router connecting to www?

If you are having problems receiving Eircom mail then the incoming pop mail server setting should be mail2.eircom.net

If you want to check that your username and password work for Eircom they can be checked here: http://webmail.eircom.net

Only the outgoing server should be changed to your ISP's but this won't affect incoming mail.

That looks like the correct SMTP, what is the message you are receiving exactly? If the above mail2.eircom.net doesn't work, try mail1.eircom.net for the incoming, which is what I have mine as.

    hi I have perlico broadband
and have an eircom email address
I want to be able to send and receive email
I am using pop3 incoming mail as mail1.eircom.net
and have been told by perlico to use smtp.utvinternet.com for my outgoing mail but this does not work.
this is the error I get every time I try to click send and receive
If anyone can help I would be very gratefull
    thanks

    kerry,
Your outgoing server is listed as 'smtp.eircom.net'
    Change this to 'mail1.eircom.net'

    Trig

    No, change it to smtp.utvinternet.com.

Edit: The perlico website says to use mail.iol.ie.

it turned out that I had to use mail1.eircom.net incoming
    and smtp.utvinternet.com outgoing
I was foolish also as I may have left out the number in my password as well
    but its working now
so once again thanks for you help guys
