    Hi,

Im a bit unsure about kickers. I understand if you both have identical pairs then the highest card becomes a kicker, but im unsure about other hands like straights, flushes and full houses. Maybe there is a resource that explains this in detail as this is important to know. btw i use paddypower poker for playing online and they dont specify what your kicker is in advance of winning the hand

    FROM POKER.COM

Kicker A kicker is a player's highest card that is used to break ties in poker hands. For example, if two players make a pair of Aces, one is holding AK and the other AJ, then the player with the K is the winner because he is holding the highest "kicker". If the players had A3 and A2, and the board was A8J5K then the two players tie with the pair of Aces, but split the pot because the best 5 card hand is made up of AAKJ8 and their kicker cards are too low. Kickers are also used to determine which player wins a flush or straight, if two players have a flush, the player with the highest of the suited cards is the winner. If the flush is made up of all over cards, then the players suited kickers do not count, and the pot is split.

One thing to remember is that kickers also count with 4 of a kind something I think traditional players won't expect. I remeber some wpt hand where some guys pocket kings lost to Ace rag because 4 7s came on the board .

What do they mean when they say " if the flush is made up of over cards"

Good to know about the 4 of a kind kicker thing.

On the straight issue if the card are 45678 i have 3A and my opponent has 2a do i beat him because i have an extended straight i.e 3-45678 and he only has 45678 or is it just counted as 8 high straight. I know if i had the 9 card id beat him but doesa lower card have any effect???

    also cards are

    AA459

    My cards are KQ
    My opponents cards are KJ

Now we both have Pair Aces with King Kickers, is this now split or does the 2nd card i.e the Q & J then become the deciding kickers??

The idea in poker is to make the best 5 card hand. If the board is: AA459 and the 2 hands are KQ and KJ, then the best 5 card hand is AAKQ9, 2nd best being AAKJ9. ie. KQ beats KJ technically its K + Q kicker v K + J kicker

If the board reads 4 5 6 7 8, then the only hands beating this are ones with a 9 or 9 10, it doesnt matter if you have AA and your opponent has 22, the board is the best hand and that is shared for a split pot.
