DECT phone won't ring

Got freespeech.ie tonight, have the 076 number and all seems fine. When I plug a cord phone into the router, I can call the 076 number and the phone rings - no problems.

When I plug my DECT phone into it, I get a dial tone etc. but if the number is called, the phone nor the base will ring. The call goes through as if I pick it up anyway the call connects, and the relevant lights on the router are flashing, but I can't get the phone to ring.

Anyone come across this before? It's a fairly old Eircom Nomad DECT phone, I wonder is it somehow set not to function with VoIP setups?

Does the phone work on an analogue line? Try changing the impedance setting to CTR21 if that's an option in your VoIP device.

On a slightly related note Paulo, can you see if you accrue minutes when you dial a number and don't pick up? My observation with freespeech was that even if the remote phone just rings without anyone answering that counts as minutes off your 10* free minutes a day.

*Note that a portion of a minute counts as a full minute in freespeech's product.

The Eircom DECT phone rings on a normal analogue line, but not with my VoIP router. I have another (crap) Binatone DECT phone which rings fine on both the analogue line and the VoIP line. Strange, anyway I'm sorted.

I'll keep an eye on the freespeech minutes FD. It's a good deal regardless IMO, 10 mins per day free, no sign-up fee or contract, no monthly charges.

The only weird thing is getting the 01 (or other local) number. They make a big deal of it on the website, but when you upgrade by lodging the €20, while you get the outgoing calls setup straight away, there's no mention of getting the extra local number.

I queried it, and got a response as follows:

    "Hello,
According to comreg, the Irish Communications Regulator (www.comreg.ie) you must be living within the boundaries of an area code before it can be provisioned. So you must state in your email that you are entitled to the geographic number you are requesting as you are within the geographic area.

The 01 number will be assigned to you, you can not choose from a list."

Seems like you have to prod them a bit to get the number. Wonder what that's all about?

Haven't heard a thing back from Broadtalk - I suspect they might be on the way out.

probably the Caller ID scheme you have set. It should be the following
    ETSI-FSK

I got the same thing when I asked where my 01 number was too. The majority of users probably use the service for outgoing calls so they probably just don't hand out the 01 numbers willy nilly as they might have a limited pool

Got the 01 today. Must say, impressed with freespeech so far, although still early days. At least I'm getting responses from them unlike Broadtalk.

if its a linksys router then try changing the waveform in the regional settings tab under the ringing settings I changed mine and it worked on my Eircom Dect phone it took a few days to find the answer on the web. http://forums.blueface.ie/showthread.php?t=211
