Just a quick note to anybody who is a little unsure about spending so much money on a bit of an unknown.

Two weeks ago I bought a Philips 42" LCD in DID for €2,000 and am very happy with its picture quality. Last week DID and Currys had a bit of a price war on this model and it went down to €1,700 last Friday and then to €1,500 at the weekend. As of the moment its gone back up to €1,700 in DID but a manager has told me it might change again and have sold 260 units by the end of last weekend.

The model number is 42pf5421 for anybody who is interested.
Hi I am getting sky HD soon cancelling my Sky Digital and getting the missus to sign a few questions am close to getting the 32" Sony Bravia for €1649 plus free DVD recorder and €150 back from Sky but was caught by the above post on another thread. Also if we are switching to get a better deal with Sky and are giving the same landline number will this show up in their records.

    Probably.

Anyway Sky are offering a special HD deal to existing Irish customers.

Unless you have a very small room, 32" is only a regular definition TV size. 37" for small room, 48" for medium room and larger for big room for HD.

ideal screen size ordinary TV, the TV height should be 1/5 to 1/6th the viewing distance and for HD the height 1/3 to 1/4 the viewing distance, esp to watch WS cinema 2.35:1

I called them today too and have some interesting info.

They say the prices for new Irish customers advertised on the web are a mistake and are not available for €299 for Sky HD.

I recieved an email a few weeks ago from Sky offering their new skybroadband service. Two weeks later they sent me an apology that this was an error on their behalf as it is not for Ireland. As a token of apology they are offering me €75 off the cost of a Sky HD box or €35 off the cost of a Sky+ box.

I rang them today and they didn't have a clue what i was talking about regarding this rebate, however they put me on hold for ten minutes and then got back to me and said i can have the discount, i didn't actually avail of it yet as im not sure whether to go for as i think multi-room is a rip off (they offer free installation if you go for multi-room and without multi-room you have to pay €70 for installation on the Sky+ box, does anyone know if i upgrade to HD box without multi-room would i also have to pay for installation?
