Sister and her mates off to college in Galway next week - good older brother that I am just signed a lease for house and now need to sort BB out - checked getbroadband.ie but did not list Smart or Digiweb - phoned both and they are available for her new place - any Galway BB users got some some advice on what is best flat rate service? - Eircom line currently in at the house - got 317kbps up and 2.45mbps down when I tested it - landlord looking for e75/month to cover line rental and BB - thinking of going with Smart - anyone using O2 / Vod BB there? If so what speeds are you getting - any advice much appreciated.

Thanks Sponge Bob - much appreciated - why does getbroadband.ie not have this on there? - do they charge a listing fee or something for providers or is it a closed shop?

Since Eircom broadband is already on the line then changing to Smart is not so easy. Also, if the line is currently in the Landlords name then either you'll need to get him to change it or he'll have to cancel everything, line and broadband, before your sister can get Smart in. Could be talking 1-3 months downtime in the changeover. Smart will require a 1 year contract too so if she'll be finishing next May that leaves her a few months short. You probably need to discuss the options with the landlord to see what he's willing to do. €35 a month is a hell of a lot better than the current €75 he's paying.

O2 and Vodafone's 3G broadband will be a lot slower, currently 384k download, and costs €50 a month so not a huge saving for the drop in speed you'll be taking. O2 have yet to officially launch their product so it's currently under trials. I believe the download cap is quite low on these too but could be wrong.

The landlord can transfer the DSL to her using Bitstream Port Transfer (outage = 10 mins total , max ) , the cheapest Bitstream 2Mbit DSL is Digiweb or BT , contact the latter 2 to get the correct form because eircom will not give it to you .

€75 a month for 3Mbits and Line rental is not a bad deal but BT do 2Mbits, rental and all landline to landline calls for about €55 a month

Go for NTL, best speeds and good prices too.
