    Hi

Can anyone recommend where I might buy CT100 cable in Galway City area?

I suppose Maplin have it but would it be pricey there and is it reasonable quality?

Came across it for sale at a trade store in Cork last week - 100metre reel for 50 euro, but probably only need 30 metres.

If its genuine ct100 I doubt you will do better than the 100m roll for €50

Guys just make sure it is actually ct100 , marked CT100 or H109 on the cable. B and q also have similar quality copper tape and braid pretty reasonable.

Maplin are expensive and charge twice as much for cable cut off roll. Any more than 1/2 a roll and buying a whole roll / reel is cheaper in Maplin for all cable types.

Was in the store that trevord mentioned and still one left with CT100 only written on cardboard reel and nothing on cable or label.

Sorry if TheDriver feels it was a wasted journey:) .

I didn't have a proper look at the cable in that shop when I was there myself because at the time I decided that buying 100m was excessive.

Should be a financial health warning about Maplin. Went there last night - €2.15 per metre for FT100 cable!!, €2.60 for one f connector.

Got two f connectors and a barrell joiner in woodies for 2.40 ! Made do some of Woodies sat cable for now. Think that buying cable off the net will be the longer term solution.

    kinda related to above....

can iuse ordinary coaxial cable from dish to reciever?

Problem is i already have ordinary coaxial cable from tv point to attic (where ive a long part of roll left).

Or could i come from the dish to the attic with satellite cable, then connect the satellite cable with the coaxial cable. Then from my tv point, coaxial cable again? into back of reciever!

I realisse that this might not be the best option, but i spose i want to know if it will work and possibly test it before i go dropping new cables into my new sitting room!

words of wisdom will be appreciated.

there is no way to tell whether it will work or not beforehand and why would you use ordinary coax from the tv point? Chances are the tv point will a. insert loss and B. will not pass voltage. Do yourself a favour and run ct100 from the dish directly to the sat receiver:)

Yes I think I warned somewhere they charge double for cut cable. I used to get F-Connectors two for half that price in Maplin. Are they platinum plated now?

Theres a few german websites that sell CT100 cable at a decent price. Its not worth buying just cable though as its not worth it with the postage. Im trying to source a 1m dish, but finding it hard to find anywhere that will post outside ireland.

Sorry Trevord, it wasn't a wasted journey as was in there for other stuff, even have nice selection of 2 step ladders for me to peruse at my convenience but decided to spot your cable. Thanks all the same!

On Constructo6, I presume there might be some hope if it was all "satellite" cable RG6 or something but no hope if its ordinary co axial (non satellite) but correct me if I am wrong? Neighbours here have sky in as far as attic connected into house wiring which is definitely not CT100.

Bought some PF100 cable, 50 metre roll, from CPC a couple of months back for just over £13 inc. VAT, which is under €20 right now. I can't reach the CPC Ireland site right now for some reason (UK site works fine) but the item number is CBBR672604. In case anyone is wondering, PF100 has the same characteristics as CT100 but has a foam-filled dilectric instead of a plastic & Air-spaced one.

Unfortunately I don't think CPC's offer of free delivery applies to the Republic (up here its delivered free for account holders if the order's above £35 plus VAT) but if you're buying other stuff alongside its worthwhile.

HI Folks, Got that cable that Trevord Pm'd about, its not CT100 but actually WF100 but has copper shielding etc and solid centre for 48 yoyos for 100m, hope I haven't been fleeced lads! Also got 250m rolls for about 130 I think but ring up to find out. They are advertising it as ct100 though. You can get RG6 100m for 19yoyos (all incl VAT)

I think the price isn't too bad. I know the cost of CT100 and FT100 cables have gone up in price in recent months, apparently due to the rising cost of copper.

Try Costello & Gibbons (Townpark centre, Tuam road - further down past Friends restaurant).

Should be better for most electrical stuff, it's trade outlet, you have to know what you want.

Bear in mind most electrical wholesalers sell cheap nasty cable masquerading as satellite compatible coax. Look for ct100 or h109 actually printed on the cable.

Larger wholesalers who sell to the public are Flaherty Markets - in by Sofa Sofa, harrys etc., or CT Electric on Sean Mulvoy Rd (between Botharmor and Roundabout at Galway Shopping Centre on Headford Rd.

Anything I ever purchased - cat5, quality sat cable (code escapes me!) etc etc was much much cheaper there than Maplin. Flaherty Markets sold me cat5 cable in my required length also - ie they cut a roll.
