Bank of Ireland has reiterated a warning to its online customers to make sure they never disclose all of the six numbers of their PIN. This follows widespread 'phishing' by spammers looking for access to customers accounts.

'Phishing' is the use of fraudulent emails to attempt to extract confidential and personal information from a customer.

BoI says that because the security of the personal log on information being sought is the responsibility of the individual customer, it will not refund customers where their disclosure of such information leads to their accounts being defrauded.

The bank says that customers refunded by the Bank recently were done so, on the exceptional basis that 'phishing' was a relatively new phenomenon in internet banking in Ireland.

Yep BOI could probably do more to prevent this or make it harder but I don't think they should have refunded anyone. If you are the kind of person that is susceptible to this kind of caper then maybe online banking is not for you. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but you'd want to be stone mad or an idiot to pump in the data that these scams look for.

Goes to show how bulletproof Rabobank's system is. Even AIB's (The code card means that at least money cant be tranferred internationally) system is not too bad. Mind you would would want to be fairly stupid to open a link in an email that doesnt even go to the Bank of Ireland website
