DPR have a preview here. It's just an in depth look at the specs at the moment though, no conclusions or opinions as yet.

it has me interested anyway, I am looking for my first DSLR and from hearing so many good things about the 350D I am looking at this. Also heard good things about the 30D but the price is a little steep...or is it worth paying the few hundred extra over the 400D?? Anyone (except U Enygma...I know your opinion :-) ) ??

    there's your answer Forrest :)
The 400D looks like a nice camera though. But I think the rear scroll wheel alone makes the 20/30D worth the extra few bob.

the 400 is very well priced for a first DSLR, i took a look at the review and didn't see anything that'd be viewed as a negative or omission for it's class!

Here is a specific link to the DP Review forums of a guy that has just started using the 400. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1031&thread=19860458

Here is a link to a rake of pictures that he has taken with it.

I think as a first SLR it would be perfect. It really is great value for the quality and features.

yeah, I currently have film SLR so I want something that will do me for ages, and just focus on lenses in the future...

I took a look at a few of the interface changes from the 350D to the 400D, and I think I'd prefer my 350D. I can't justify upgrading for the 2MP difference. And the only upgrade from 350D to the better cameras (of interest to me) is spot metering, and eventually full frame (which I am FAR too poor to afford right now).
