hello, hoping to head to New York for a few days in early Novemeber to see a friend perform on broadway(!!!!) and was wondering if anyone knows the name of a hostel etc that is reasonably priced? thanks!!!

I always stay at this hostel http://www.chelseahostel.com/ its pretty good and has a great location.

Union Square Seminary up beside Columbia University is very cheap, close to downtown and nice accommodation. You need to tell them you have some sort of affiliation to the university, but they're not too strict about it.
