Whats going on with my audio???? Cant get any sound to work

    Hi,

Ive got a problem with my onboard audio for some reason. My mobo is an epox ep-9npa ultra.. I dont think it matters but the rest of the specs are an amd 64 3700+,1gb corsair ram,250gb hd,dvd burner,x800gtofireblade gpu.

Basically the problem is that the pc is recognising the hardware as being present and functioning. Everything was working okay up to today. Its not the drivers. I already tried reinstalling those. One thing that could have messed it up though is that I used the windows update website a few days ago and it gave me new drivers for my audio so i installed them presuming they were okay coming from the windows site like.

I have tried connector sensing in the realtech control panel. it sees the connected equipment but still no sound comes out. I am using an external stereo with rca input for speakers and i have confirmed that this is working by plugging it into my mp3 player using the same wire i use to connect my pc just to eliminate everything..

So does anyone know what the problem is? Have drivers from the microsft site fried my onboard audio??? ......Or is it some other reason??

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ab

Not likely that the wrong drivers would fry your audio (perhaps cause some issues). :) Have you got the original drivers on a disc?

Ya they are the ones i reinstalled. The ones that came on the mobo disk. Its wierd though, normally when the audio dosent work the hardware isnt in device manager and winamp/wmp will come up with an error but now music is actually playing fine but im not getting any sound output

bit of a stupid question i know but are you sure you dont have the sound muted in windows?

can check it in control panel under sounds and audio devices (also possible to see from many other areas).

This had me stumped once for a couple hours till my sanity was restored and i realised what was up.

As above, is the volume control button showing on the system tray? Make sure the Windows Audio service is enabled in Services (Start->Run->services.msc and scroll down to Windows Audio, click that and then over on the left window pane click Start the service).

I have the exact same board, and get a weird error and my audio stops working... BUT audio works fine when the windows "jiggle" plays when I click restart

Basically, sound works perfect, then I get the attached error, games, music, windows sounds etc.. dont work after I get the error. So I click restart, HEAR the damn jiggle, pc restarts and everything is fine for a while. The error messege links to the microsoft site, and says the problem was caused by a virus :o Which it wasn't, because Iv'e gotten the error at least once every day, since I installed windows on Monday!

Ran all the usual checks etc... nothing... I'm dumbstruck tbh, The sound card works perfectly, before and after the error, but only windows logging off/on

I turn on my computer today and suddenly the sound is working again!!
I restarted multiple times yesterday and nothing. Now today its all of a sudden working!! And no the sound wasnt muted:rolleyes: . I might just buy a sound card anyway just to eliminate this unreliability.. Thanks for all the replies
