    but I have 1 gig of ddr 333mhz ram in my pc and I have just bought 1 gig of ddr 400 mhz ram..

    Would games run faster with both in (2 gigs of ram)? or with just the 1 gig of ddr400 in on its own?

    Putting both in will give you the better results, IMO. You'll have 2GB of RAM, though as noted one board won't be working at its full speed, though that should pretty much be a non issue for you.

    ddr333 is definitely slower than ddr400. Your ddr400 stick(s) will just run at the lower speed. You (not you specifically) probably wouldn't notice the difference between ddr333 and ddr400 though. The most important thing is the amount of ram tbh.
