Now all I need is an MP3 player and a Radio without a cassette slot.

I note that some newer card systems have a 3.5mm jack socket for audio in anyway making Cassette adaptors and iTrips inferior and obsolete.

Now if we all get changed to DAB and DRM then the radio may not work with an iTrip anyway.

I suspect that by the time that this happens, most of us reading this forum will also be obsolete

Surely by the time DAB/DRM radios become standard in all card CD or USB based MP3 players will be included.

Of course what with "peak oil" and climate change unless a viable alternative to the petrol/diesel engine emerges soon I reckon CARS will be obsolete first :(

I always wondered which would give better audio quality out of an iTrip-like yoke or a tape adaptor. I'd assume the tape adaptor would perform a lot better than any tape as it's not restricted to the physical limits of the media, but there would still be inevitable motor noise - likewise the FM signal will be pretty direct, but I can't see such a small transmitter being very sophisticated and FM stereo is seemingly invariably noisy...

No motor noise on mine Except the car engine :)

Any newer radio may not have cassette.

I doubt the iTrip is stereo, is it? I don't know. A stereo multiplex subcarrier at 38kHz with 19kHz pilot and L-R signal a lot more complicted than L+R into an FM modulator (Can be done with one transistor).

I assumed they weren't stereo either, but then I saw a friend using one (can't remember if was an actual iTrip or some other brand) and the stereo symbol popped up on the radio's display. I suppose it wouldn't be *that* hard these days to make a stereo FM modulator into such a small package - though they could be cutting corners...

Its hardly THAT complicated there are single chip stereo encoders out there !
