All of the photo kiosk places round here have an option to put pictures onto CD for you, and the U.S. is usually years ahead of this side of the planet with this sort of stuff, afaik... so I'd expect you to be able to do it at chemists or walmarts or whatever. But - if you shoot raw, I'm not sure if you'd be able to use one of them, since it isn't a normal picture file type like jpg.

Was in Turin over the June Bank Holiday and had similar problem. I went into an Internet Cafe and they burnt a DVD for me for €3. They just copied the contents onto a folder on their hard disk from my 2 1gb CF cards (including RAW files) and burnt the DVD from there.

I don't know what memory card you are using but you can pick up 2Gb cards in the states for between €50 and €60. Two of them boys should keep ypu going for awhile.

maybe invest in a USB CF card reader just in case, so that if you do go to a cafe or whatnot at least someone has the gear to connect your card to the machine as a removable device rather than the annoying camera option the Canon drivers give you when connecting directly.

Yeah getting CD's burnt in the internet cafe's is the norm. Although I dont know how happy they'll be both hooking up your camera to their computers. The photo kiosks sound like your best bet.

On an aside, got myself a new Hp portable printer recently with a internal 4GB hard drive, have yet to use it on hols. Even at that shooting in raw will eat that up, nicer if it was a 40GB.

There is after all a practical use for an ipod!

I have a pocket sized USB 2.0 hard drive, 20gb and it works grand. Burning to CD would be fine too.

If you don't want to buy a portable backup device like a PD70X (great machine), I'd do as Valentia said. Get a few 1/2gb cards and make your frequent trips to internet cafe's to backup the cards a little less frequent.

I will probably go with the internet cafe idea(unless my mam gives me some money for cards lol) I dont have much money that I can actually spend on myself! :D

I'd do the same as Ruu, buy a 2.5 laptop hardrive and case, and then buy a cheap card reader, pop into any internet cafe and just backup to the HD.

    Also, remember to BACKUP.

Seems like a stupid statement, but all the responses above are talking about MOVING your files to another device so that you can reuse the CF card. What you then have is all your images on one device, be it CD, DVD, HDD or whatever. If you lose or damage this device, everything is lost.

Better to move your files, and either keep the 'originals' on the CF card and keep them seperate, or even mail them home from time to time, or else back them up onto a completely seperate device. At least then, the chances of losing everything are reduced.

Another option is to get some on net storage space, and upload your files to this from an Internet cafe. Any reputable cmpany will be doing realtime backups of their users accounts. You could always email them to a gmail account, or something with similar space.

Just don't put everything onto a portable device, delete the originals and think that this is backing up !!!
