Is it better to use ccleaner or windows to uninstall applications? I would prefer t rid of all traces (incl. reg. keys, i know this is impossible sometimes).

what's the most efficient prog. out there?

Use windows to uninstall. Then CCCleaner to clean up any traces left behind.

Alternatively something like InstallSpy can be used to monitor the install process and record what changes were made by the system. Then when you uninstall it will check to make sure all the changes are undone.

The un-installer that came with the program is generally the best one as it logs where everything goes.

It can be annoying with a lazy developer who leaves behind folders and other bits but I wouldn't be too worried about registry keys as the registry is a relational database it is not something that is loaded 'entirely' into the system memory an application just looks at a specific location within the registry for a key and that's it.

Generally there is no harm from redundant entries neither do they impact performance.
