    Hi,
Im 21. I have kind of forgot about my religion in the last few years. In the last few months I have started to realise that its always been there and ive just been ignoring it.

Anyways, I am interested in getting involved with other young catholics...Is there any groups out there or anything? I also would like somebody to be able to talk to for spiritual advice. I live in the west by the way.

    Thanks.

If you're in university, go visit the Roman Catholic Chaplain. I was in Trinity where there was Mass every morning at 8, Mass on Sunday and free soup and sandwiches in the chaplaincy on Tuesdays. I have to say though, that at times, it was all a bit ecumenical for my liking.

There are many organisations out there - but keep away from the wishy-washy, airy-fairy brigade (i.e. 'christian youth groups' - a lot of the stuff they harp on about goes against Catholic tradition).

tbh im not interested in going to mass. I just want to meet ppl with the same beliefs as me or that are spiritual and believe in self-discipline. I can still be a catholic and believe what I want without going to mass can't I. I have my own interpretation of catholicism. Perhaps im just spiritual. I was brought up as a catholic though and I feel to some extent its part of me, maybe its just the fear factor.

CYC might be a good idea. I'm protestant but i went with them to France in 97 (when i was 18 ) for world youth day. Had grteat meetings before hand, was enjoyable and met people my own age interested in spirituality.

Is that still true, that one must keep Holy the Sabbath day?
Does one being able to call themself catholic depend so much on going to mass?

Well, one minute with google throws up paragraph 1389 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church which requires believers to eat the host/bread once a year, but "encourages" them to do it evry day:
The Church obliges the faithful "to take part in the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and feast days" and, prepared by the sacrament of Reconciliation, to receive the Eucharist at least once a year, if possible during the Easter season. But the Church strongly encourages the faithful to receive the holy Eucharist on Sundays and feast days, or more often still, even daily.
I can't find anything specifically about visiting the church building per se, but I presume that it's implied that you should go there to eat the bread if you're well enough, and stay at home and have it brought to you if you're not.

A better google might produce a better result!

Heya op. Theres a group thatd suit you dont to the ground called youth2000 http://www.youth2000.ie/ .I went to Lourdes with them a couple of years back and at the time it was just for a free holiday but they were such nice sound people and It was really nice to discuss spiritual stuff with people my own age for once. They have lots of events over Ireland.Lots of them are run by young priests with discussions on spirituality and matters concerning young catholics. Id be really hesitant in joining any other young christian groups as they all seem a bit crazy to be honest, but youth 200 to me always seemed the best of a bad bunch

I got involvedthrough my music teacher in the school i went to. Best bet is to contact the diocesan youth officer (if your diocese has one) and they can advise. If you havean approachable pp he can advise too. Theres a CYC center on the quays in Dublin, maby give them a ring to see whats available. (sorry cant e of more help as out of the loop for a while)
