There is a thread running over in BIZ
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054986627

which give details of a scam using cheques.

I made some inquiries this am and it is a widescale problem.

Because it involves a ruthless criminal element, for those of you who sell online the advice would seem to be that you should not give out your mailing address for someone to send you a cheque.

There have been a few cases in Dublin where individuals have come looking for the excess in person and have tried to intimidate the receiver of the cheque, on the basis that they cashed the cheque.

The argument seems to be you signed a registered letter for the cheque, our records show you lodged it, so....

In closing, iif you receive any such cheques the Fraud Squad are interested in them so I would be obliged if you would contact me.
    Thank you
