Go to Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options, click on the Languages tab, then Details. Make sure English (Ireland) is set as the default language. Alt Gr+4 should give you the Euro symbol.

When you say "up key" you mean the Shift key?

Sounds like it's set to a US layout.

What Ruu suggested should have worked.
    Try Start/Settings/Control Panel/Regional....

Languages/Click 'details' under text services - what you want to see is English(UK) with an English (UK) keyboard.

Its the same key both sides, anyway I just set my keyboard to English(US) and I got the same "problems" as you. I set it back to English(Ireland) and its working fine with the euro symbol and others you mentioned. Double check the language settings again, make sure its highlighted in bold to denote it being the default.

    Text services and input language??

    It only says US.

"What Ruu suggested should have worked.

    Are you using XP?

Beside Regional Options there should be two other tabs, one saying 'Languages', the other 'Advanced' , and the first thing under 'Languages' is 'Text Services and Input languages'.

Ah right, have the window you want captured open then press the "Prt Scr" key and then go into Paint (Start->Programs->Accessories->Paint). Click Edit, Paste and then Save as a JPEG file. Attach it to your next post.
