Satellite and Old TV - Help!

I recently signed up for Sky digital basic package. I have a VCR and a DVD recorder with HDD and a perfectly good Sony TV which is 14 years old, which I will replace when it stops working, if ever. It is hard to see how to wire it all together (the cable guy left it with the DVD and VCR out of the loop). If I follow the diagram in the Sky manual I can either record onto the DVD or watch stuff from it depending which SCART I use to connect it to the Sky box (Great!). If I follow the manual for the DVD I have to switch on the DVD box to watch the Sky channels. The poor old VCR does not even get a look in .

Is there a site where I can get a better understanding of what needs to be connected to what?

My TV has only one SCART - does it need more than one?

Do I have to re-tune the TV (which was tuned in for NTL Cable analoge) so it picks up the channels from Sky on the RF cable?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hmmm.

What you could do is run a Scart from Sky to TV. Run a second scart from the VCR output of Skybox to the DVD recorder.

Additionally, on top of this, run RF cable from Skybox to VCR, one from VCR to DVD rec, and from DVD Rec to the TV.

The VCR can then be tuned to an RF channel (and indeed Sky also) on your TV.

Thanks for the suggestion but no joy - there must be something really basic that I have overlooked - Oddly the DVD recorder seems to fail to recognise the Satellite as a valid input when setting up the input source (it does not ask which supplier). Anyway, in my frustation I rang Sky and fair play to them the engineer is calling on Saturday to sort me out at no extra cost - I have to hand it to them they seem to know a bit about customer service which is a relief.

The really strange thing is that Sky person on the support line said that when he changes between using the Sky box and the DVD player he has to take out one scart from the TV and plug in the other - that's too much exercise for me I'm afraid!

I'll let you know the outcome.
