So maxconsole are saying that ebgames have advertised a HDMI cable for the 360 to be released on 1st december at $99.

Sweet, I would be really interested in that.
Would there be much of an improvement in picture quality over component/vga?
Or would it just be of benefit for the HDDVD player?

It wouldn't make any difference at all. The 360 will still only support the same HD resolutions, but now if your tv only has hdmi, you can actually connect it.

is this instead of the component head on the av cable ? As there is no hdmi port on the 360 ? and I dont rememeber any news about one on the hd-dvd add on?

Seemingly someone somewhere coped on that the 360 can actually support a digital video output due to the similarities between its own GPU and an off-the-shelf card for PC's.

If it works then I'll be getting one, I'm sick of the sh!t colour I get from my VGA cable and don't get me started about the component.

Follow this link to EB Games where you can book your Xbox 360 HDMI cable for the princely sum of USD$99.00.

Released on December 1st, I'm not sure if they will ship to Ireland.

hdmi cable could also be MS's way of supporting the new audio formats properly, instead of down-sampling them over the spdif cable..

Sony have no excuse, the ps3 doesn't even ship with a hdmi cable, so your paying €600, and not even getting the blasted cable thats needed to show case how good the console is!

Both solutions include Blu-ray Disc™ the latest in high-definition* video, Bluetooth, four USB ports, 1080p video, and the advanced microprocessor, the Cell Broadband Engine™. The difference between them, however, is that the $599 system includes HDMI**, Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash slots, Wi-Fi***, and a 60GB hard disk drive (HDD), whereas the $499 system comes with a 20GB HDD.

    * Video output in HD requires cables and an HD-compatible display, both sold separately. Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard. HDMI cable not included. Additional equipment may be required to use the HDMI connector.

If the cable exists, it's not a Microsoft cable:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/rumorang-xbox-360-hdmi-cable-officially-yanked/

After constantly pestering them for a comment, they informed us that the product was not one of theirs and that "Microsoft has not announced any additional support beyond component video for HD output. MS is watching the market closely and they will continue to evaluate any options in the face of consumer demand."
