yup they are now legal, but there's still much better ways to get your music onto a good sound system.

Are you sure ? The last I read about this topic, a few months back, was that there was to be an EU directive allowing such short-range devices, but each country would have to enact legislation to adopt the directive.

In other words, still against the law, though I would be astonished it if were ever enforced.

    Breaking news on unison.ie:
I-trip devices are to be made legal in Ireland before the end of the year, it was announced this afternoon.
The mechanisms are used to connect i-pods and other mp3 players to radios or car stereos and allow people to tune in their radio and listen to the mp3 through the speakers.

Such devices have been illegal here, as in effect they create a short range radio transmitter.

I have seen fm transmitters for mp3 players for sale in a few shops. I assume this is the same thing?

"The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has said that it plans to lift the ban on short-range radio devices like iTrip, which allows people to listen to MP3 players through their car radio. "

"Whilst it was officially illegal to use iTrip devices, it was not illegal to buy or sell the devices. As a result, use of iTrip devices were not strictly policed by An Gardai."

If it were a case that they were still illegal to use, stores could still actually sell them. It would be left up to the purchaser to secure the proper authorisation for their use (an actual broadcasting license). However they are now no-longer illegal to use - hence, for example, the store I work in are now looking to order large quantities of them in.

Are the lidl ones worth buying? My cousin is looking for one.
