Guess it's time i posted up some of my photos. What with this being a photo board and all.......

I'm not into that whole flickr thing. I'm stubbornly recalcitrant.
    :p

So you can see my shots here on PhotoSIG. There shouldn't be any need to sign up as far as I know. No need to go easy on me, i've got a thick skin.

Some of the thumbnails look a little off-colour, the photos themselves are ok though.

Some great shots there but I cant see them all , you have to sign up to see photos more than 72 hours old , at least thats what it tells me !

Ah nuts, sorry about that. I thought they would all be visible. I'll find a way to post the older shots too.

    Here we go:

like the first one, although I would have moved a little more to the left and get more of the wee man's face ;)

Simply love the last one, there's something about those curly swirly paths :)

I know it would involve some serious PS trickery but I'd love to see that dog moved closer to the kid. The child looks nervous and teh dog looks a bit evil. nice!
I like you cliff shot also.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

Actually in the first one it is the space between the dog and the boy which I like the most. I feel there is a story there, it's like the protective mother is saying "look at the nice doggy - but don't get too close".

I would have preferred to have gotten more of the mother into the shot alright though. She is too cramped on the edge of the frame.

I love the last one. The way the path leads the viewer into the photo to where the man is standing is fantastic. I didn't know paths like that really existed, I mean what's the point of it? There could just as easily be a straight path there, but there's that fantastic windy path instead.
I like thinking about what he's looking at too

I like the doggy one and love the old lad up the Comeraghs. The lead in from the path is great, I might crop a little of the bottom out though....might...can't be sure.
The dog does look psycho and the kid is kind of nervy looking (I'd be too). On second and third looks at that shot I agree about the space between the two. It defines the shot. I initially thought along the same lines as Dundhoone and thought that if you could bring the dog closer it would increase the air of menace that the dogs expression gives.
The cliff scene is a great environmental shot. There's a lot going on there between the mosses, sea pink, grasses and birds. Where was it taken?

@ Cambo_gueno that path is like that because of the terrain in which it's situated. It's kind of rough and rises and falls for about a mile to the waterfall in the distance.

I really like the last 1. The colour of the vegitation is super.
I wonder where the old chap was off to?? It does not look like there is anything for miles!

The last shot was taken on the way to Mahon Falls in the Comeraghs, the Falls are that little trickle in the background. The track really does wind like that, but you wouldn't really think it when you are there. I used a telephoto to get the shot and I think it made the track look more compressed. Pity about the sheep poop, but i guess thats what you get when you go walking in the mountains!

The cliff-face shot was taken near Stradbally in Waterford, as was the star trail too. I'm not too happy with the star trail one, I will be trying it again when the days inevitably get shorter (sigh).

I absolutely love the start trail one.. Did you just leave the shutter open for a few minutes? It's something I never would have thought of doing to watch stars, although I've done it with cars etc..

I'm not mad about the first one, although there's the emphasis of that gap, I still feel there should be a different angle on it, because there's nothing that really catches your eye.. Different strokes for different folks I guess..

Star trail photography is pretty easy - for people with film anyway.

Set the camera up on a tripod, point it at the sky, shoot in Bulb mode and go off and have a coffee. Leave to simmer for an hour or so depending on how long you want the trails to be.

It doesn't really work for digital cameras, first because of noise and second because of battery time. All my shots were roughly 30 mins long.

Here's what proper star trails should look like.

That's seriously impressive! I think it looks fantastic, makes me appreciate looking at the stars even more.

I'd really like to get into the star photography. I hope you share some more when you take them.

The dog should be easy to photoshop (I'll give it a go if you want) but I do like the distance and the expressions, shame about the background.

The winding path is excellent, well done.
