This the Glebe in Trim, i've played it a couple of times, challenging enough, especially if there is wind...

It's just that I'm playing it on sunday. I just wanted the heads up on what to expect. Then I'll decide whether to join or not. Thx

Don't make up your mind re joining til you play it.
Its a good course, in decent nick... but there are better around

Played it a couple of times in the past few years. One of the lads was marrying into the extended family or something so we got it for something ridiculous like €11 a round! Always enjoyed it myself. From memory, the first eight holes are a bit plain up and down but some lovely holes from there on in.

Probably the best value golf I've ever played. I enquired about membership shortly after the new clubhouse was built and I think it was about €5k. Let us know what it is now please.

I asked the question and this is was I got....

Thank you for your enquiry regarding membership.
    Our membership is now open.
There is no entrance fee to become a member.
The only fee payable is your annual subscription.
The annual subscription is 795euro plus 100 euro voucher for the restaurant. Therefore total payable is 895 euro.
This also includes your GUI/ ILGU levy.
Affiliation of the GUI And ILGU are in progress with confirmation expected in the next one to two weeks.
As an added bonus anyone who joins now will not have to pay their second subscription til January 2008, effectively giving you 4 months free golf.
There is limited availability on this offer.
Every application is subject to approval by the council of the club and you do not have to be nominated by an existing member.
Application forms are available at reception in our new clubhouse or alternatively via post on receipt of your postal address.

I hope this is of use to you but should have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

This seems on paper as being a pretty good offer. The waiting for GUI affiliation does seem to be slightly worrying, but there is a degree of confidence in attaining this in the next few weeks......so for me this is a no brainer if you are looking to develop your golf as a non member.

I have already replied in the affirmative and nixed my Black Bush membership application. If anyone else is interested, pm me and I'll pass on the contact I got out there.

    Ken

    Off topic i know.
How much is the membership out at Black Bush?

Re the Glebe, seems like a good deal.

Black Bush is €8k for joining with about €800 per year. Just seems a little exorbitant, but it is a nice course.....3 nines.

I have the glebe sending out the forms as Trim is not a million miles away from Lucan so it will do me to pay less than €1k to join until January 2008, on a course that I can get some competitive golf on at the weekend. Also opens up access to all other courses with the official handicap.

I'm new to all this guys forgive my ignorance.. But whats the difference between affiliated clubs and non ?
I've only started playing more regular this year and am looking to join a club but nothing thats gonna break the bank either.. My best to date is 93 around silloge park in ballymun so I'm looking to get an official handicap to improve my results.

    NUTS

You can't get an official GUI handicap unless the club is affiliated to the GUI.

From experience, golf club affiliation can take a while, best bet is to ring the GUI or e-mail them and find out for sure.

Golfnuts - as was said already you need to be with a GUI affiliated club to get a GUI handicap. I think (but not sure) that Sillogue do some sort of membership thing. If it's a case you're Dublin based the best option for membership and thus handicap is probably -
Corballis or Elm Green (Dublin City Council owned) which are both about €400 per annum, but you still have to pay a portion of green fee each time you play
Hollystown is about €400 for the pay a reduced green fee each time and up to €1300 for no green fees at all.

Any other clubs in Dublin will have anything from 5k to 50k to join... So the above are probably the best options for value - but you're not a voting rights member etc. in the above. If you are keen, contact them now as I think Hollystown are taking on new members now - or soon and Corballis/Elm Green may be soon too.

I lived close to the Glebe and played it many times. It is a plain enough course but is still maturing. Some nice holes. It can be very very rough in Winter. Havent played it in over a year. That is a good deal for 895 though.
