Flight Plans... Would it be possible?

Ok Folks I need advice, I am planning to go to the Rugby in Murrayfield in March. To save money I plan to take 2 flights to get to Edinburgh and 2 to get back to Dublin. The flights are as follows -

    Dublin to Stansted (Ryanair) 6.25 - 7.40
    Stansted to Edinburgh (Easyjet) 9.05 - 10.25

Match is at 1.30 and over at 3 - 3.30

    Edinburgh to Birmingham (BA) 17.30 - 18.40

    And Finally!!

    Birmingham to Dublin (Ryanair) 19.40 - 20.45

Would this be possible or am I just kidding myself??? Obviously dont want to miss a flight or nothing. I plan to check in online to save time and all the Airlines support this method of check in. I wont have any baggage, just myself, passport and check in papers. So what do you think?

O BTW if I flew direct to Edinburgh it would cost up on 300eur as opposed to 120eur in total! for the routes above.

EDIT: Times are all correct and Murrayfield is a 15 min cab journey from the Airport

Thats awfully tight, a queue for security or a delay on the way to the airport and you're screwed.

Technically possible.... but you need to be lucky....very lucky.

You could try flying to Glasgow, Prestwick or Newcastle and getting the train to/from Edinburgh.

I'd do it just for the thrill to see if it could be done. Would be a great story if it worked out! But, i'd have extra emergency cash with me just in case.

Best of luck with it. If ya do it i'd be very interested in hearing how you got on.

It may only take 15 mins to get to the Airport from Murrayfield, but considering what Ballsbridge is like after a match in Lansdowne Road, I think you're cutting it very tight. If your flight is at 17:30, that means getting to the check-in desk NO LATER than 16:45.

I don't fancy your chances, but like Dublinstiofán, I'm interested to see how you get on.

Well I have booked the first half of the trip...
    Dublin to Stansted (Ryanair) 6.25 - 7.40
    Stansted to Edinburgh (Easyjet) 9.05 - 10.25

I am still undecided as to how I'm going to get home. And that is the problem ,its real tight, especially the connection from Birmingham. Mite stay the nite in Glasgow / Edinburgh and catch a Celtic match or suming like that. As for the first half I have to be at the Easyjet Checkin desk before 8.25!!!! :D

Im just back from footie in Germany and had flights thru Stansted and I have to say that the place is a goddam nightmare. Flew out on Friday morning with Easyjet from Stansted and the queues for security were crazy. Must have queued for 25 minutes. Not as bad coming back on Sunday afternoon but still bad.

I have flights booked via Stansted for that game in Edinburgh but definitely going to change to direct from Shannon even though its going to cost me a fair bit more.

Online check-in will help you but IMO its very very tight.

Well Folks the saga is over... I decided to fly from Edinburgh to Belfast that evening (leaving at 18.05 arriving at 18.55) and get the second last Bus to Dublin (20.00) arriving back in dublin at 23.00.

    Cost so Far...

Dublin to Stansted (Ryanair) - €24
Stansted to Edinburgh (Easyjet) - €40
Edinburgh to Belfast (Easyjet) - €56

    Total - €120 + Buses / Taxi etc approx €40 = €160

    Equivalent-

With Ryanair - Dublin to Edinburgh and back (same day) - €266.01

With AerLingus - Dublin to Edinburgh and back the next day - €414.59.  Add in a nights stay in Edinburgh and you have an expensive trip....

Fair enough Ill be travelling for the best part of 10 hrs but sure it will be good craic! Love to stay in Edinburgh for the nite, too expensive tho :(

EDIT: I only hope on the Sat morn Stansted is quiet :)

no i dont think thats going to work, a part from the fact that there is a high probability at least one of the flights being delayed, with Ryan Air you need to be there AT LEAST one hour before hand, and as we all know they are bastards and dont tolerate any extra minutes past that 59 minute mark, meaning thta by the time you actually get off the BA flight to Birmingham, you will already be screwed by Ryan Air...assholes...

best of luck if you do though!!

If you could point me in the direction of any info where ryanair state that you must be at the point of departure 1 hour before the flight departs when you are in the possession of your boarding card (as the OP said he will be using the check and go facility) that would be great for future reference.

Well on the experience that Saturday morning at most international airports is an extremely busy time.... why should STN be any different????

Well you could have said that in the first place instead of a totally pig ignorant reply like "It won't be....".

    That one should be fine.
Match is at 1.30 and over at 3 - 3.30

    Edinburgh to Birmingham (BA) 17.30 - 18.40
That ones too tight unless you check in on line and get to the airport by 430.If you join the BA exec club(which you can do when you book the flight on BA.com,you'll have the option to join the exec club there and then)
Because all the flights are the same day you will be able to check in online for that BA flight anytime after 530pm the previous day before you have even left Dublin.Ergo you will be able to go straight to security once you get to Edinburgh airport.
    So I'd say do-able.
    And Finally!!

    Birmingham to Dublin (Ryanair) 19.40 - 20.45
Yeah as long as your BA plane is not delayed and you check in online for the Dublin flight and you arrive into the same terminal.
Times are all correct and Murrayfield is a 15 min cab journey from the Airport
Very do able then and remember you should be able to check in online for all those flights before even leaving Dublin, thereby ensuring that you are not told that the flight is closed when you arrive at any of the airports.
I would allow for a 45min cab journey in Edinburgh though especially as it mightnt be easy to get one.Thats actually the biggest possible hiccup.
If you get to EDI by 430 you will be grand once you are already checked in.

    Hope that helps

Cheers for the advise anyhow. I decided against doing the Edinburgh - Birmingham - Dublin because I thought it was cutting it a bit too fine. Although im a bit of a pro of using all sorts of transport (Usually when I'm going to Old Trafford, I never fly into Manchester, its either Liverpool or East Midlands, bus to train station and train to Manchester) Takes me hours but I save a hell of a lot of Money :D and you meet sound people on the way, like the time I was going to Old Trafford I was sitting beside a load of people who were on the train from Sheffield going to the match), I wouldnt want to chance it. But this trip is a little different, its the first time ill be in three different airport in the one day!

Stansted will be fine on saturday morning. Remove all the weekday business flights from an early airport morning and its manageable. And March is hardly peak season for holiday makers.

Stansted is one of the most streamlined airports i've had the pleasure of using too.

You seem like a travel-lucky kinda guy going by yor method so you'll be fine. Only stressed out and rat-race type people miss flights and stuff cos they are asking for it.

I'm sorry if you took it as trying to be smart.... it wasn't.

The thing to do if in doubt about what you can carry on an an airline is ring the airline in question...that is why I added 'seriously' onto the end of the post...

Il'l keep my advice in future for those who might appreciate it.... thanks
