Bad Ebay experience

I have read warnings about Ebay before, but as I had no bad experiences with them myself I did not pay too much attention. However I recently purchased an item which turned out to be faulty (a rusted battery compartment on a PDA) and therefore complained to Ebay. This saga started way back in May but as of today its still ongoing and I have not received any compensation from Ebay. It appears that its being handled by their Swiss offices as I keep getting emails in the Swiss language, although my personal details are obviously quite clear to them and I am registered as an Irish user. The sending of these emails in a foreign language is obviously going to delay things considerably as it then needs me to write back and ask for an English reply, which I might then recieve a couple of weeks later. ! There have so far been about 20 emails exchanged either in English or Swiss, and I have been asked so many questions along the way I began to feel that 'I' was the one in the wrong and that it was 'I' who had sold the faulty goods. ! I have been told several times that my claim is approved and being 'processed' for payment, but as payment never arrives I write back to ask 'when' is it going to be paid and this then generates more questions from Ebay which have to be answered, and so the saga starts all over again. ! These are quite obviously delaying tactics, probably in the hope that I will get fed up and stop asking and drop the whole thing completely. ? The amount is only E:75.00 so its not going to bust the bank, but I refuse to give up. It would appear from all this that Sellers have more protection on Ebay than buyers, which of course is all wrong. If sellers are advertising and selling faulty products they should be removed as a seller instantly and not allowed to sell. This experience together with the Ebay illegal VAT charges is enough to turn anyone 'off' Ebay for good. !

;) Has anyone ever called Ebay ? I called them (in America) over the VAT charging, and sent them a Fax but nobody is interested. ! Their standard response over 'everything' is "were looking into it" - and of course they never do... !

    Hi

Sorry, was it ebay you contacted or the seller, I will be very surprised that e-bay will send you e-mails in Swiss.

Could be the seller using the contact buyer in ebay. Have you contacted Paypal, if you paid using Paypal?

    Regards

    Hi.
I contacted 'Ebay' themselves in America. I did of course write to the seller, who lives in the UK, many times, but he never once replied, so thats when I took it up with Ebay. If anyone would like to see the Ebay emails in a foreign language, I would copy them onto this thread. ! I checked the email 'headers' and it appears they are all genuine emails from <eubpp@ebay.com>
so they are not from the seller. I did not pay via PayPal. The seller said he had no PayPal account so he asked for a bank draft. !

    Ok Thanks

I know from other posts in the past that users never got a refund from ebay if paying by cash/bank draft, etc. , I think what ebay might do is block the account till the issue is fixed.

Paypal and ebay are the same company and I think that support is done from Blanchardstown in both cases you could try calling paypal and ask them to transfer you or give you a number for Ebay, if needed escalate.

    Paypal's number is 1890 943 220

    Regards

    Final update.
I received the refund via PayPal the other day. Ebay had deducted over 50% as an 'administration' charge. ! I wrote back with a vigerous protest, not that it will do any good. The Seller appears to have got away with it 'scott free' and Ebay appears to protect sellers more than buyers. ! So I ended up with an unusable product and the loss of over 50% of my money, plus the postage. charge. ! A typical case of a company too large for its own good treating buyers like they are rogues. !

Very surprised you got anything as you weren't using Paypal. Your contract for a purchase is with the seller, not eBay.

You can call ebay? I was told by a representitive they don't have telephone support.

I'm over 3 days waiting for a reply to an email to them. Their customer service is non existant.

I would be very surprised if the emails were in Swiss as there is no such language - German, Italian or French perhaps? :D

As regards telephoning eBay - forget it - there are many other threads on this subject and you are wasting your time. Leave the seller negative feedback, if you haven't already, and put it down to experience!
