not much like braveheart.. and no rip off.. it was around the same time and both are different real life people from different points in history. I think there were guns in Rob Roy...

Sure go ahead.. i enjoyed it years ago.

It's better than Braveheart (not hard). I reckon it would have got a lot more recognition if it hadn't come out around the same time as BH and just been written off as a rip-off or cash in.

It also has one of the best swordfights ever and Tim Roth as a great villian.

Yes.... Tim Roth was great in this... what ever happened to Tim Roth? He used to be in everything.

Right on the money, excellent movie, great performances all round and far more subtle and nuanced than the chest-thumping, faux-celtery of Braveheart. Would second comments re: Roth's excellent performance as a fey psycho-dandy, also thought Hurt was top-notch.....

yeah, without a doubt Roth was one of the biggest b*stards i've seen in a movie. I really enjoyed it, definitely more understated than mel's effort & the sword fight was excellent (swordfights in Zatoichi ftw though)

Instead of starting new thread i just thought i would add to this one, i saw Rob Roy the other night again, a long time since i last saw it and i just thought it was so much better than Braveheart, the acting, the story and it was a bit more realsitic regarding historical times. Braveheart was more of an big epic but this has more character or something

Worth watching and worth owning IMO. Brilliant film. I'd have a hard time finding any faults with it. The sword fight is the best I've ever seen in a film.
