Ques re NTL's digital Pace decoder

Have ntls mmds service which comes with the pace docoder. Wasn't here when the lads installed it and I presume becuase it was the easier they connected the decoder to the tv via scart lead. IT all works fine no problems there but what I want to do is take a feed from the RF out socket on the back of the decoder and run it to a second tv.I understand that what ever is on tv no1 will have to be on tv no2, so to make it clear I am not trying to watch different channels from the same decoder on different tv's.
The problem is I cannot get a signal from the RF out socket of the decoder, have tried to tune it in on the tv but no joy. Same box will work every time when connected via a scart lead, just press AV and the picture pops up on the tv. I know its not the box that is causing the problem as I have tried the other one upstairs aswell.IT does not give you much info in the manual so would appreciated if anyone is using their decoder via the RF lead aswell as the scart and if so how did you do it

    Hi

Sorry I'm not sure at all, I'm on NTL digital in Dublin, but I think that the "Cable out" is for the cable out for the analog service if available.

    Regards

Cheers Nava, can anyone clarify this. I wonder if this is the case what would happen if your tv had no scart. I was thinking it was just a case I need to get into the engineers menu to enable the rf connector. Either way how do you get into this menu on the pace box?

    Thanks Cubix

Are ye sure there is an actual RF out on the pace boxes - the ones i have seen only have a loopthrough for connecting up other boxes etc. YOu would either need to feed the scart output into a seperate RF modulator or (easier) into a video and select the scart input (E1 etc..). then take the RF from the video as normal..

Your spot on Owen it turns out its only a loop through connector. Some one else also suggested to run a scart lead from the extra scart socket on the back of the pace box to the scart socket on the video and then run the coax from the RF out on the video to the second tv. Works like a dream except for one niggle, when you turn the video to E1 the second tv gets a picture but after about 5mins the video recorder seems to go into standby mode and tv2 loose picture. Not sure if this video recorder has an option to turn off stand by, if not will have to stick in a cassette which is a bit of pain. Thanks again

Cubix, try seeing if your VCR has a 'monitor' mode. That way you can view a channel all the time without it going into standby after a few minutes.

Cheers Bazzer, tried that but it still knocks off after about 5mins. Heres the senario 1: turn vcr on/change channel on vcr to E1/press monitor button on vcr and tv shows up on the little screen on the vcr/goes off after about 5mins.
Senario 2:All of the above to the point where i press the monitor button again but this time vcr shows up on the little screen/ still goes off after five or so minutes.
When doing all this I have a tape in the machine,am going to try it again without a tape and also on different channels, the vcr goes up as far channel 16. IF you can think of anything else Bazzer let me know

    Thanks Cubix

Maplin has Video modulators that cost more than a VHS. Places that have VHS you may get one that doesn't switch to standby for 50 EUro

Or Use 2.4GHz video senders. Scart to Scart, stereo instead of mono and FM instead of AM Video, VHS Modulators are poor.

IF I cant get the vcr to stop goinging into standby mode I think I will go down the Av route Watty. Can you also confirm for me that Ntl's digital mmds service only carries digital and not digital and anologue like ntls cable service

NTL MMDS only carries digital content, no analogue.

Another suggestion Cubix, it's a long shot, but try holding down the 'Monitor' button for about 5 seconds, rather than just pressing it momentarily. This may have the effect of 'forcing' the VCR to stay in monitor mode, rather than just giving you a quick view.

Cheers Baz but didnt work. click onto E1/hold down monitor button/tv comes up on vcr's little screen/signal comes on the tv but again goes off after about 5mins. Have you ever come across a device that would take a signal from scart to coaxal

Yes, as Watty mentioned above, it's called a modulator. Seeing you're in Dublin, B+Q Liffey Valley sell them. I've seen them around the electrical section, near other TV stuff like aerials, cables and connectors.

Cool didnt realise thats what it was. I suppose considering they are about the same in price might go with the wireless Av sender as I can use around the house

    Thanks

Just one last question, was looking at AV senders today. I know from the post here people are having trouble getting the remote part of the Av senders to work. Even some of the boxes had stickers on them saying the remote part of this av will not work with NTL or TeleWest. So what is it with Ntl's pace boxes that the infa-red wont work normally

Some models of NTL box modulate the IR beam at a very different frequency or method, not sure which. Most devices use 37KHz to 45KHz pulses so that interference can be filtered out. The timing of the pulses or pattern of pulses carrys the remote code. The Video Sender detects the modulation using a basic IR detector and passes it via filter to a minature 433.085MHz transmitter (fixed, even when you change A, B, C or D channel). The 433.085MHz receiver at the 2.4GHz Video transmitter simply drives on or more IR LEDS directy.

The Video sender does not decode the remote signal, only retransmit it, so if it is not pulses in 35KHz to 45Khz range approximately it won't work.
